Motion Detector Lighting Available?

Hello. Do you know if those motion detector light fixtures are commonly available? Particularly in the Udon Thani/Nong Khai area at the bigger home supply stores?

Thanks

They are available.

Have seen them many times....but now that I am myself looking for one, cannot find it locally yet.

Home Pro had one, but a not so good version....there are good and bad ones.

Thanks. I'm thinking of brining them into Thailand from my location outside on my next flight over. Might take up a lot of luggage weight, though.

No need to import them - any electrical supplier who stocks Schneider, Btcino, HPM etc will be able to order them, if not already in stock.

I have two outside units that I got at Home Pro (B1000 give or take?). The sensitivity gets crazy on occasion (either coming on for no apparent reason or not 'seeing' fat me - maybe humidity?) but most nights work very well. I usually just leave them on as they do not fire up during daylight. The kind I got (forget brand) have controls for sensitivity, lumens, and time.

Pir detectors relate to infrared signatures. The closer to body heat (37 degs.) The more likely for false alarms, so in Thailand you really need digital pir's. There are many such suppliers in Thailand.

I too have 2 outside 500watt.bought from home pro.did have a problem with one of them after 9months but as we are good customers they replaced it.

Do they plug into sockets or are they hard wired in as a normal light fixture ?

We have a motion sensing floodlight from HomePro. It's just plugged into an outside (under cover) socket. Had it for more than 1 year with no problems.

Can't remember if they came with a plug or not. Since outside, I wanted to connect directly to cable and inside the fixture.

I've set-up PIRs bought locally and ones brought in from the UK (probably made in China !). The local ones seem to stand up the the heat move (the UK ones crack after a while) but they tend to die after a year or so, while some from the UK are still going strong after 6 years (even with the cracks).

Do you vet many false alarms with both?

These things pick up anything that moves in their line of vision, right? So there are going to be lots of false alarms.

There are basically two types:

Passive Infra Red - works on detecting differences in heat - work on the principle that humans have a fairly constant body temperature, and that's usually higher then the surroundings. Stops work at around 37c

Microwave (AKA Radar) - works on doppler principle to detect physical movement.

Both are prone to false alarms in different ways. Some better sensors use both type of sensor, which balances their deficiencies out and reduces false alarms.

What to look out for? What are the good and bad aspects?
