Hello. I am currently on a standard O visa, not attached to marriage or retirement. The visa expires on May 10th. I will be on holiday for 2 weeks starting May 1st, so I can’t trigger the extra 90 days on that trip as I won’t be entering Thailand until the 14th. If I do a visa run prior to leaving for the US (say April 28) and trigger the extra 90 days, then leave on holiday, entering Thailand May 10th, will I still have the 90 days starting from my arrival in April? How will that work with the already stamped passport which would be the end of July?

Thank you for any help

If you do a visa run on 28 April, you will get the 90 days, However, before you leave for the US you will have to purchase a re-entry permit to keep your permission to stay alive when you return. The cost of the permit is 1000 baht and you can purchase it at the airport, just go a little early. Put the reentry permit number in the place that asks for visa number when you fill out you arriavl card when you come back. Have a nice trip!

Seems like allot of hassle and expense for at most a couple months stay on your return. (You would get 30 days on arrival with no visa.) Why not just get another non-imm or tourist visa while your Stateside?

Enjoy your trip.

Thank you wayned. I appreciate the information.

I'll assume I purchase the reentry permit at the little office behind immigration?

Thank you OMG for taking time to respond to my question.

Yes, it is a lot of hassle and expense. However, I had some problems before entering on a standard 30 day on arrival after my O visa had expired. Fortunately I had proof of my flight out information and O visa application, so I was allowed to enter. I will also be eligible for a retirement visa middle of July, so this will give me an extra month to arrange for that, and I thought it easier to convert from O to O retirement. I could be completely wrong on that. I haven’t done the retirement visa research yet. If anyone would like to comment on that, please do.

Sincerely

John

You will not covert anything. You just apply for an extension of stay based upon retirement.

You will need to have 800k baht in the bank for 60 days on the date you apply or proof of 65k baht income by way of a letter from your embassy.
