Hello, I have a 35 day trip this May-June. I have read here on the fourm that a 7 day extension is possible. Since I will be in Khon Kaen can I apply at the immigration office there and if so how far in advance? - or- on arrival in BKK can I show my return tkt and ask for 35 days?

Thanks

You will receive a 30 day visa exempt entry.

On application to an immigration office a 7 day "extension" may be granted to enable departure from the country.

Yes, you can get that at the KK Immigration Office. Or any other immigration office. 1900 baht.

KK is a good one to use.

I think a couple of weeks early is ok.

Don't think you'll have any luck asking for 35 days when you arrive.

If you decide to visit Laos as long as you're this close, you'll get 30 days when you return to Thailand.

You can get a Lao Visa here in KKC or at the border.

If you intend staying longer than 30 days you need a Tourist Visa.

Without one or a ticket leaving Thailand within 30 days you face the possibility of being refused entry on the flight.

Yes, but he doesn't need to declare that he plans to stay longer than 30 days. He can just keep quiet and once here, apply for the seven-day extension, right?

The risk --as pointed out by Lite Beer is that the OP will be prevented from boarding without a flight out of Thailand within 30 days

Techincally true but in 15+ years of visits of 6 weeks or longer I've never had a problem. A simple protection is a fully refundable tkt out - buy it print the ekts and confirmation then xcl and be refunded all done within the same credit card billing cycle.

At check-in the airline is the first Immigation cop and the tool they all use is called TIMATIC a constantly updated database of immigration requirements.

Casual users can also access this in a roundabout way via the Delta Airlines website -use the link "re-enter the USA section " to get to as near as possible to the guts of the system.

Walk your way through the prompts and you will get at the end the response the airline checkin agent sees.

In my case [from MEX US citz perm res 35 day stay I get clobbered as a No Go] but change them to MX-US -TH- US-MX 26 days comes out green:

TIMATIC reponse:

Type: Ok
Summary
Yes, The documentation you hold is sufficient based on your details and the itinerary provided.

Type: Ok

Visa Thailand
The following should be taken into account even if holding a Visa:

Visitors who are visa exempt are required to hold documents for their next destination.

Visitors over 12 years of age are required to hold sufficient funds to cover their stay (at least THB 10,000.- per person or THB 20,000.- per family). Proof of funds includes Letters of Credit, vouchers, MCO's or well-known credit cards, which are honoured in Thailand. Exempt are: holders of a re-entry visa.

For those who do not require a visa, stays are restricted to a max. of 90 days within any 6 month period. This also applies to those granted an initial stay of 30 days, wishing to extend their stay. One photo will be required for extension application. Stays exceeding the 90 days within any 6 month period may also be possible.

do the same but 26 day stay I get green lights

{if I argue to DL in MEX that really I'm US I could get green-lightedas a 35 day stay gets extra details}

=Based on the above: To solve my overstay problem DL needs to either forget about my MX residence and let me go if I can profer 'proof' of onward travel via another carrier before 30 days passes. Thanks to an old Air Asia BKK-SGN etkt email pdf and a tool for Open Office Draw mkes sure that is well under control.

TIMATIC is an invaluable tool - obfuscated but worth the find and access via the Delta site
