Where ever there is a beach in Thailand there will be many thousands of folk traveling in Pegas Touristik buses ready willing and eager to strip the place of any peaceful ambience that it once possessed.

Do not limit yourself to just islands. there are many beautiful beaches on the mainland. rent car and start in cha am, then head south from there. too many too chose from.

plus, do not rely on website. you really need to eperience these places first hand.

I just went for an weekend trip to north of Khao Lak (west coast) and there were plenty of pretty and quiet beaches, but not in 10 minutes distance from the BigC or Lotus.

I spent the last three months traveling everywhere in Thailand. I don't think you can beat Phukett. Patong is a waste of space but all the beach communities, north and south of it are great places to live. Kata, Karon, Nai Harn or Kamala, all work. They are some of the best beaches in the world.

I guess you could rent a place off the Internet, but it would be difficult. You really have to pick a spot and then find a place to rent. Start out with a hotel room for a month. End of the season coming up with plenty of places.

Sorry, I'm keeping quiet about the very long, very white sand, very quiet beach that I like. Maybe 15 minutes to Big C. Rents (no condos) perhaps 25% of BKK. Last time I swam there, my group were the only ones on the beach (not counting the som tam seller about 50m back towards the road.

But good luck with your search. I reckon there is a sliding scale of "home comforts" vs tranquility vs price, and you may need to adjust to that. Having said that, the rent factor will be in your favour.

I understand your concern. But someone must have told you about it, right? Why not share?

anywhere south of nakorn sri thamarat on east coast, songkla is nice and fits what u desire, as does satun/trang

miles and miles of beaches north and south of Trang.

anyone that lives here for more than 6 months knows where deserted beaches are.

I have sent you a PM ! these people who post there secret places but do not give an indication of where they are are in my view very selfish or maybe they get a thrill out of winding the op up we can all select a picture from a website just like this one !!!! This is of no help to someone who has asked a straightforward question and ends up with negative replies.

You truly have not been out in the world most people live in if you think those are the best beaches in the world. I suggest you travel a lot more or you are very easy to please.

Samui would be my pic . Although getting busier every year . There is still a quiet beach and out of the way place to rent .

Or Kannom on mainland south of Samui ferry terminal but it's very quiet .

If I was in the OP's situation, looking for a beach resort - I'd stick to Cha-Am. I live CM and found that Cha-Am meets all my requirements for a holiday. If I had to consider a long term stay, that would be it.

My wife and I have been searching for a rental long term to get away from our condo living in Bangkok, it's noisy and smoggy most of the time. We have found many places by owner in HuaHin, Cha Am, area, on Homeaway.com. Good luck with your search.

Omaha beach comes to mined, I know that the allied forces stayed there quite a long time...

stay away of beaches near cities( imagine how many toilets there are in Pattaya...it does not float upwards in the mountains but straight in the bay of thailand .All their souring water runs in the almost not moving sea,making the water stink (Pattaya,Jomptien,Hua Hin,)Puhket has nice beaches with

better water quality because the sea currents take away rubbish and the sea water is refreshed .

Islands are OK ,as far as they don't have wast dumps on them (koh Si Chang)and are not near a harbor.

I know it's not on your list but there are some beautiful empty beaches to the East of Ban Phe in Rayong and one of the nicest beaches on the mainland is there at Laem Mae Phim although you are a lot more more than 10mins from a big c or lotus. If you could put up with a dirtier beach and busy on weekends and a nightmare during songkran then Maerhumphung a couple of klicks to the West of Ban Phe is ok and 20baht by songtaew to the big city of Rayong so you have sort of the best of both worlds but not the best beach and it is cheap withThai prices. It is also convenient for the airport being to the SE of Bangkok.

Koh Phangan. I stayed a month in a beach hut last year and it was perfect I wish I had longer.

I just hired a bike and rode around the island looking at places to stay. Don't take the first place you find. There are many. Mine was a beach hut, just a room with bathroom, small kitchen and balcony with a hammock. Cost me 8000 for the month.

The island has many great beaches, waterfalls and nature. Just stay away from the full moon party areas at haad rin.

I liked it so much I moved there, own a condo on the beach and in the process of building a house with my Thai wife. The beaches to the East of Ban Phe to Laem Mae Phim are fantastic and empty but you need transport as even though the songtaew service is improved you still have long waits and there is no service at night. It's a couple of hours to the Cambodian border as well for those needing to do visa runs. For some people, myself included, it can be too quiet so I've compromised by living in Ban Phe.

I once posted in reply to an OP from a person looking for a peaceful beach away from Pattaya but within an hour or so time wise of same. I replied telling him of the beach in Bang Saray, the Navy School Resort and of course the beautiful Nan Ram beach in U-tapao and the even more beautiful part of it that might not be discovered if one did not bother to drive an extra couple of hundred meters past the barrier where the soldier stands to find it.

People posted in reply amazed that I had "given away" the secret place by naming it and that I could now expect it to be over run by Farangs in string vests etc. I at first thought they were joking but soon began to realize that they were not (exactly the same as here and now).

It is beyond my comprehension that type of totally selfish self centered thinking, what a "Dog in the meager" attitude. If I discover something that is both beneficial and beautiful to me I really enjoy seeing others getting the same pleasure from it and am only too happy to share it with them.

Is it any wonder there are so many grumpy old men on this forum when you see the way their mind works.

Karon Beach area in Phuket. Great food choices, beach is wonderful and housing is easy and the night life is fun and varied. If you can deal with the throngs of Russian Tourists and the feeling that sometimes you are in Smolensk.... lol... then you will find it easy and fun. You will also be right next to Kata Beach and a bit further along, Patong and that night life. Scooter rentals are easy and usually around 300bht per day. Better to rent one long term than using taxis... they are crooks charging way too much. Walking is easy and the local food vendors are great. I know some might think I am nuts and that there are better places, and they might be right. But I love karon Beach and the ease of life there.

I didn't see anything too encouraging and am too lazy to read the rest so I'll just make a recommendation: Try either Prechup Kiri Kan or Baan Cheang. Prechup is small-ish, quiet, good fishing, beaches and fairly much owned by the Thai military due to the fact that one of the hotels on the beach was King Rama IV's palace. From there down to Wacoa is the same. But, Lotus/Big C are 1/2 hour's car ride away. Baan Cheang was really cool a few yrs ago (haven't seen it in awhile). Close to the beach, lowish rents and a big-ish city near-by. Depending on age, needs and wants I guess. Good Luck

ETA: avoid places you find on the internet unless you want to live around people like that.

Nha Trang, Vietnam...arguably one of the most beautiful beaches in the world...miles of beautiful coastline...walk across the street to hotels, restaurants, and entertainment...relatively inexpensive...not nearly the hassles found at the beaches of Thailand...

I have just vacated a great little hideway come fishing shack, 3 clicks north of Vungtau,lots of amenities and bars, beaches and out of this world totty and NO TUKTUKS or Touts!!!!

I live under 100 meters from the beach in Khao Takiab. Fulfills your requirements.

Pranburi - 20 minutes south of Hua Hin

South of huahin has yet to be ruined
