What Does 'geh' Mean?

Featured Replies

my friend says 'geh' is an offensive word to women but he won't tell me what it means... can anyone? it's a 'g' as in 'gay', but not such a long 'ay' sound, rather a short 'eh'.

geh - เก๊ - fake, false, counterfeit, not genuine.

old lady would be igeh

Calling an "Old Lady" ee gae is definitely not a good idea!

"ee" is the female equivalent of "eye" - when used to address a man (I can't type Thai on this computer so that's the best transliteration I can come up with).

Both are derogatory, impolite and offensive in almost any situation.

Do not use the term unless you are joking with older relatives or friends with whom you are very close.

P.S. I should perhaps add a proviso - if you are living in certain "Baan Nork" areas the terms "ee" and "eye" are common parlance, however if you are a Farang living and socialising in Bangkok or other urban areas don't use the words unless you are absolutely sure you understand their connotations.
