Changing a Non O visa for marriage to a retirement Non O?

Featured Replies

If I enter Thailand on a Non O for marriage visa, can I change it in Thailand to get an extension based on retirement?

Would rather avoid the hassle of extending a marriage based non O visa, and yes, I will have 800,000 baht in the bank for 3 months when extending.

As for why I find myself in this situation, it's complicated.

Thank you in advance for your help.

The reason your non-o visa was issued for does not matter when you apply for an extension of stay.

You can do it based upon retirement without a problem.

I don't think you will need to "change" anything as the visa itself doesn't say on what basis it was issued, and from what I have read on here immigration prefers to extend for retirement rather than marriage.

And for that first extension the money only needs to be seasoned for two months.

Retirement is easier for immigration processing, issued on the spot, no bangkok referral etc, not tied to marriage aspect, independant.

Better way to go, in my opinion.

Thank you all.

I say 3 months, as have had previous extensions, so not taking any chances as to 2 or 3 months. That visa lapsed, so starting again.

Indeed, an extension for retirement is way easier than one for marriage.

As always second hand information is unlikely to be an accurate reflection of reality.

There is no need for anyone to leave the country in order to change the reason for their extension.

If there are specific issues which cannot be raised in a public forum it is always possible to PM one of the moderators for an opinion.

To be clear, I won't be changing an extension. I will be entering Thailand on a non O that was issued to see my wife, but want to extend it based on retirement.

Thanks to all that replied.

Iam a bit in same boat.

My visa extension is running out in July. I get 50 next January.

with my marriage going downhill i dont know what is my best option until i get 50.

any advice?

Get the extension based on marriage, if she doesn't want to cooperate go to savanakhet in Laos and apply for a multiple non-O based on your marriage. You will need to take a few border runs, but after that can apply for an extension based on retirement.

Mario2008.-thank you for your fast helpful feedback.
