Abhisit and Suthep face another murder charge from Wat Prathum case

BANGKOK, 24 March 2014 (NNT) - The Department of Special Investigation (DSI) has closed the case of the shooting of six people at Wat Prathum Wanaram temple. A murder charge has been pressed against former Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva and his deputy Suthep Thaugsuban.

DSI Director-General Tharit Pengdit said the murder charge against Mr Abhisit and Mr Suthep was the result of the court’s ruling that the six people at Wat Prathum were shot dead by authorities on 19 May 2010 when the then government dispersed the “red-shirt” protesters.

The former PM and Mr Suthep, who is now leader of the anti-government People’s Democratic Reform Committee, previously faced many charges lodged against them by the DSI. All of the charges involve the violent crack-down on the red-shirt protesters in 2010.

There won't be ANY charges for the Army as the DSI (Tarit) has already "cleared" them and said they won't be investigated.

Well, if the people are accepting of the various charges brought by NACC, Constitutional Court etc., then it's only right that if the DSI are charging Abhisit and Suthep for the Temple murders, then they stand up and face the music.

I'm sure that the DSI are extensively investigating, and will soon bring murder charges against, Yingluk, Chalerm and Tarit for the deaths at Pan Fah Bridge.

I see that Yingluck and a few others took a page out of Suthep's book and didn't turn up to acknowledge charges against them.

The first part of your comments is correct, but the reason is that they cannot be found guilty of murder if they did not have the "finger on the trigger"...!

The article that you have linked to doesn't have anything about court rulings.

What it does say is:

The DSI argued Mr. Abhisit and Mr. Suthep should be held responsible for their deaths as the soldiers were operating under orders of CRES.

Given that the soldiers were operating under the rules of engagement authorised by CRES (including Tarit), and that the soldiers appear to have acted outside those rules of engagement, it seems more like the soldiers should be facing charges, rather than Abhisit and Suthep.

Sorry but Yingluck's dereliction of duty is far more important than bringing PDRC leadership to justice for murder. Murder is just doing business; dereliction of duty is corruption. Justice Thai style.

If I remember well, the court found that the victims were shot with bullets from a type of rifle like the ones used by the army. That's all. The court did not rule who actually fires the rifle.

Is that the result of an independent and unbiased investigation by DSI? Well, I guess now we know how "neutral" they are.

Let's see if the Office of the Attorney General with actually file the charges. Last time they did, Yingluck rewarded them with hefty salary increases.
