Post #5 is not true. A Thai can own or purchase land regardless of what there name is. The only change after marriage (and that is true if name changed or not) is that Thai must purchase alone and declare the money as there's alone. They have full ownership rights.

I think you might be refering to the new law that is suppose to protect foreign brides from spousal abuse. Read and interesting article INTERNATIONAL MARRIAGE BROKER REGULATION ACT OF 2005 (IMBRA)
