I was talking to a neighbour, and they told me that they have never received anything sent in the post to their address, (we live in the same building).

I have never had anything sent to my address. Normally get it sent to a Thai friend, and it always arrives.

It got me thinking though, is there way to check the accuracy of addresses? Maybe at the Post Office? Maybe a map that shows the Moo numbers for the postman?

House X, Moo Y, Tambon Bophut, Amphoe Samui seems a bit vague to me. I mean, how many Moo's are there in Bophut?

I have driven through Maenam, and can see how the Moo numbers on each side of the road go up, but have no idea for say Bophut to Bangrak.

Only the post office can tell you.

"Bo Phut" as an address goes all the way from Zazen corner, to OHM's motorbikes, and up to near the airport, including Chaweng.

If your post code is 84330 (by the sound of it), go to Mae Nam post office with your full address and ask why there are no deliveries. The staff speak good English, are friendly and will try to help you. The same holds true if you are in Chaweng.

Try Googleing your Thai post code to see where it shows up and work from there.

The most important thing is the house number. Moo (หมู่) is also important.

For example 152/1. I guess on this entire island, even if you do get all the other details wrong, I think the post office should still be able to locate your house as long as you get the number exactly correct.

There aren't that many roads here and every property should have their designated number. This means that if a plot of land contains several houses or units, it'll be divided by /, such as 152/1 152/2 152/3 etc.

Condos and apartments may look something like this: 152/1154 152/2154 152/3154.

If it's a building with a well known name, such a hotel or office building, just writing the name of the building and not the house number should even be enough.

I hope you get it fixed and receive any mail, anyhow, in my experience even the adress is completly correct, mail often gets lost here. Specially from abroad always use registred mail.

The norm for numbering is xxx/yy where xxx is the area within the Moo and yy is the house number.

House numbers on Samui bear little relationship to location. They are more to do with 'when built'.

I have 3 houses in a row. They are numbered 11, 56, and 23. They are all next to each other. The first was the 11th house to be built in the area, the next was the 23rd and the last was the 56th house..

You have to go to the post office where you are and draw a map for them. On that map they will need to see a house that they know!

Mind you - having cracked the post office may not help you much.

I live a little off the beaten track and my postman (been delivering to my house for years bless him) decides to save gasoline by saving my post until I have a bunch of letters. Then he delivers them all in one go. UBC, TOT credit card bills etc usually arrive after the pay-by dates.

Well I tried Googling my postcode, 84320, and got the map below. Wow! That is one big postcode area. I will do as suggested and go to the Post Office. Thanks everyone for suggestions.

You could always get a P.O. Box.

We never have any mail missing since we got a p.o box.

Any more experience with PO Boxes? I have heard they are sold out for years already.

I was told the same in Meanam Post Office, no po box available on the whole island for the foreseeable future.

Went a couple of days later to Nathon and got one immediately. First year was about 150 baht.
