Court drops case against PM Hun Sen

Featured Replies

A case filed by a youth organiser against Prime Minister Hun Sen, in which the premier was accused of illegally ceding Cambodian territory to Vietnam, has been dropped by Phnom Penh Municipal Court.

Deputy prosecutor Meas Chanpiseth last week issued a decision, saying the court would not pursue the case brought by Neang Sokhun, president of the Khmer Youth Federation of Patriots, which accuses Hun Sen of unlawfully giving away the islands of Koh Tral and Koh Krachak Ses to Vietnam.

“It’s not a court that offers justice for its nation, but a court that defends individuals who commit crimes,” Sokhun said yesterday, adding that he plans to appeal the decision. “I am very upset with the court’s unjust decision.”

Sokhun filed his case in court on February 3. When Sokhun appeared as a plaintiff in the case on February 28, the deputy prosecutor said that more evidence was needed, Sokhun told the Post at the time.

Chanpiseth declined to comment on the case yesterday.
