Hey everyone,

Im a German and a Thai national.

I was entering Thailand with my German Passport.

Now I made already a Thai ID and a Thai Passport because I want to stay in Thailand.

Because my 30Day Visa in my German Passport is expiring, I have to leave Thailand and go back into Thailand with my Thai ID/Passport.

As I know, when a Thai National leaves Thailand with his Thai Passport he gets something like a stamp. Because I have to go out with my German Passport I might get in Trouble when going back into Thailand.

I thought maybe it is possible to go back to Thailand with the Thai ID instead of the Passport. But Im not shure if thats possible (over land in laos or cambodia)

Does anyone have made already similiar experience and can give me an advise?

Thanks

Just leave Thailand on the German passport and re-enter on the Thai passport. Explain the situation when returning and it should not be a problem. If an immigration official is difficult, ask for a superior. Remember, you are a Thai and cannot be denied entry into Thailand on a Thai passport.

If you do not want to leave just yet, you can simply apply for a 1 year extension of stay at immigration for 1,900 baht on show of your Thai ID-card.

Just to add. You generally can not do the passport swap over land. You must fly.

If you are luck post songkran there are some cheap air asia deals so a quick flight to a neighbouring country and back shouldn't be too hard.

Thanks a lot for your quick reply. So why do I have to fly and cant get back over land?

I have heard that it is possible to go in again with the Thai ID card in laos an cambodia...

At land borders immigration officials look for entry/exit stamps in both directions in the same passport

Not so at airports because many countries do not provide exit stamps

He's asking about using his Thai ID card, not a passport.

I often wonder why duel citizens even care about such matters?

If you are in posession of a thai passport and thai ID card there is not a chance in hell you will ever be deported, you are Thai!

Why not just forget all about your entry into Thailand under the German passport?

You are Thai and you can prove it, you don't even need to have a passport!!

Maybe this is an iresponsible post, if it is, I hope it gets corrected soon!

If a Thai national that has another nationality enters Thailand on a a non Thai passport they are subject to immigration rules for that nationality.

They might might not be deported but would have to pay an overstay fine if they go beyond their permit to stay.

Thai's cannot use their ID cards to enter the country at a border crossing unless they have a border pass to go with it that shows they they left that way.

You could try doing the passport swap at a border crossing by explaining the situation and showing your departure from Thailand and entry/departure for the other country on your non Thai passport. Or first try entering the other country with your Thai passport (no visa needed) but you will have the same problem because there will not be a departure stamp from Thailand in it. The worst that can happen is that you will get a 30 day exempt entry.
