Amazingly helpful parking attendants

Featured Replies

I would like to share this incident to show all the "Thai kickers" that there are some really helpful Thai people out there, willing to help a Farang in distress.

My GF asked me to pick her up outside Zeer Rangsit a few weeks back. So as usual I parked the car right out the front of the steps where there isn't really a place to park with my hazards lights flashing as usually she is there waiting so I am only stopped for a few minutes.

This day one of the security/parking officers tapped on my window, I was thinking he was going to tell me to move so I gestered to him I would wouldn't be there long. He continued to explain something to me that I couldn't make out, when my GF appeared. She explained he was trying to tell me my back left tyre was flat.

I got out and proceeded to get out the tools and the spare. He said no wait a minute, and off he went with another guard who had appeared on his bike. A few minutes later they arrived back carrying a trolly jack on the bike and proceeded to jack up the car and take off the flat tyre. As I indicated I would get the spare they said no and zoomed off with the tyre.

It only seemed like 10 minutes when they appeared on the bike with the tyre between them fixed and fully inflated, with a receipt for around about 110 baht ( can't remember the exact figure) they then re-attached the tyre. I said to my GF we need to tip them for this, she asked them if they wanted any money for the service and they said no.

But I did give them a good tip anyway as it was a great service they had done for me in a matter of 20 minutes or so. I don't know how long it would have taken me to do the job, finding a tyre repair place without any transport would have been difficult, because as it happens one of the wheel nuts holding the spare to the back door had a lock but I didn't have a key as it was the first time I had taken the cover off to look at the spare properly since buying it 3 months ago.

This really made my day, as I hope this story will make yours.

Steady on old chap, first Samran and now yourself, with good news stories- you are both destroying my belief in Thailand and the usual erudite posters that frequent General.
