Yes you can. Income letters are valid for 6 months according to the rules.

There is also a honorary consulate in CM where you can do the statutory declaration (income letter).

.

My local imm office said the income letter is valid for no more than 30 days. but that's for Americans and it may be different for Australians but here at least I kind of doubt it.

It always seems to boil down to difference in mileage.

There was considerable debate about the validity period of "income statements"

It was he American Embassy who assisted in establishing with immigration the 6 month validity period.

This was confirmed to all immigration offices by formal letter originating from the head of immigration services.

You should inform us of the name of this office which appears to be operating well outside the norm.

Immigration in Chiang Rai will accept a letter from the honorary consul who is based in Chiang Mai. If I am in Bangkok within 6 months of my renewal I go to the consulate and complete a statutory declaration saying what my monthly income is and where it comes from. My last 2 extensions of stay declarations have been made in January and February for expiry date 28th May. Best advice is to check what your local immigration office require.

Edit I am an Australian citizen

it is 6 months for all countries. See this for info: attachicon.gifPCEC-NOTICE-THAI-IMMIGRATION-NEWS-JUNE-6.pdf

.

I agree Joe but that's why I put in the mileage qualification.

I was knocked back with my first retirement application by the captain in the back of the immigration office in Jomtiem. I was fully qualified but she said she "preferred" to see a 6 month rental/lease contract when at the time at least it was absolutely not a requirement at all for a retirement visa.

Even the sergeant near the front door decided to take it upon himself to go back and plea my case to no avail.

Mileage may vary no matter what the rules state, I believe.

I may "prefer" certain things happen to her but I'll keep that to myself.

Can i do it in Chiang Rai if i get a hotel there for a while?

Chiang Mai immigration will accept the letter with 6 months validity.

Only small offices might not be informed about the 6 month rule but you could print out the notice in Thai sent out to all immigration offices that is part of the file I posted a download link for.
