Bank letter for visa extension

Featured Replies

I am going to apply for an extension of my non imm 'O' visa based on marriage and I'll be making a deposit into my account and updating the passbook on the morning I go to immigration in Khon Kaen but do I need to get the bank letter on the same day? It would be easier for me to get it on the Monday and then just do the updating on the Thursday when we go.

My wife is concerned about part of the TM7 form as well. At the bottom of page one it says 'I wish to apply for an extension of temporary stay in the Kingdom for another period of ..............days'

I think it should be 90 days as that's how long you are allowed before reporting again but she is confused as the visa is for a year. Have I got this right?

Thanks

365 days is usual for an extension of stay based on marriage !

The bank letter/bank book sums should be the same !

Be aware 400,000 bht needs to have been in the bank for 2 months if this is your first extension.

Kimamey, please keep us informed as to the outcome of your visa extension application after what I hope is a successful visit to your local Immigration Police office.

You will be doing an extension of stay visas are not extended.

Many offices want the letter from the bank to be no older that the day before you apply.

You will be applying for a 365 day extension. The reports of staying longer than 90 days are not extensions.

All extension based upon marriage only require the money to be in the bank for 2 months.

Looks like I'm going to have to do the bank letter on the same day then. I'm in Bangkok for a couple of days before that. The 400,000 baht has been in there for more than 2 months without being touched so I'll be doing a deposit before I update the passbook.

Thanks for the help everyone.

Depends which immigration office you are using.

Phuket (and many other immigration offices) only excepts 2 months for the first time extension and 3 months for the Consecutive extensions.

Somebody should show them the rules in police order 777/2551 clause 2.18 that states it is 2 months for all extensions. I cannot believe an immigration office as large as Phuket is not aware of the rules or refuses to accept them. I only know of perhaps 1 or 2 small offices that do that which is lot less than many,

Phuket Immigration is very well aware of the rules but they implemented it as a local rule.

I don't think you have much change of overruling their "local" ruling or interpretation of the rules.

I don't think a local immigration office is allowed to circumvent the written rules. They are only allowed to ask for additional documents and etc.

You can be sure if somebody was to appeal an extension as allowed in the police order the refusal based on that local rule it would be overturned.

You are probable right but you also know that this would possible cause a lot of problems for your next extension. (if you went against them)

In my experience they have a very good memory for (in their eyes) trouble makers.

That is why they get away with violations of the rules. People are to scared to make waves.

I think taking a chance on having problems would be better than having to leave the country to get a new visa and starting all over again.

I don't think it always about being scared but to avoid possible hassle for the future.

Specially if the extra month is not a problem for most cases.

Scared or worried are the same thing if talking abort problems with future extensions.

For it not to be a problem would mean going in 30 days early for the application if you had only topped up the account to meet the 60 day requirement that is in the police order.

Kimamey, please keep us informed as to the outcome of your visa extension application after what I hope is a successful visit to your local Immigration Police office.

Sorry about the delay. We had to go to Bangkok suddenly and then we has internet problems so it just got forgotten.

It all went OK but it would have been easier if we could have done the bank letter the day before as it meant we ended up being later so we weren't finished before their lunch. We could have gone to get something to eat but we'd decided to go to the restaurant near the airport (Praprai Restaurant) with our 2 witnesses so we just waited. It might be more difficult if you're on your own without a Thai to do the talking unless you peak Thai of course. I know there were several documents that needed copying apart from the ones we'd already done. so my wife had to keep running out to get them done but the guy we spoke to was OK and my wife gave him a tip after we'd finished.

I do know someone who has gone there and paid to get what they wanted so there is corruption there but I never encountered it.

We have to phone them at the end of this month to check that it's ready and then go and pick it up.

My wife has just said something about 'when you've got the extension you have to get a re entry'. She found this on some forum for Thai women but I'm not sure what it's about. My visa was multi entry but maybe the extension isn't but I'll have to find out about that. Judging by the mumbling in Thai from her I'm guessing that whatever it's about is my fault. smile.png

If anyone is still reading this I have one question. If I leave the country as I will do in June does that mean when I come back at the end of the month that my 90 days will start again?

You will need to get a re-entry permit if you want to travel. A single costs 1000 baht and a multiple 3800 baht.

Just forget about you multiple entry visa it is not needed now and cannot be used or you would loose your extension..

You have to get a re-entry permit if you leave because you no longer have a visa (i.e. permit to enter the country). You have extended the period you are allowed to stay on the visa you once had. Therefore if you do not buy a re-entry permit, when you next enter the country you will be given a 30 day visa waiver entry and your one year extension of permission to stay will be cancelled.

And yes, the 90 days starts when you enter the country- it is merely an address report that all foreigners must do, any time they are in the country for more than 90 consecutive days. If you have not spent 90 consecutive days in the country you do not need to do it, and of course the way you calculate whether you have spent 90 consecutive days in the country is to count the first day you entered the country as "day 1".

I have removed several unneeded posts. They contained off topic replies, bickering and etc.

I'll do this in a separate post.

Thanks for all the replies and help.

Just thought I'd come back to say I got the extension OK.

I mentioned in a previous post (now deleted) that Khon Kaen immigration seemed a lot happier place than before and it was the same this time. There is a new guy there who seems to be the source of a lot of jokes although not speaking Thai I can't understand them. Whatever the reason any trip to immigration is a pain I'd rather not endure but at least the friendly atmosphere makes it easier. I don't know what it would be like without my wife as an English speaker with little Thai.
