H1N1 Infuenza -2014

Featured Replies

A "pandemic" is an event which crosses country boundary's and involves more than one Continent .

There no current evidence of "flu" pandemic.

The WHO is the monitoring / Warning agency.

Details can be found on the WHO website.

NB

The number of cases reported in the link is insignificant when set against a population of 66 million.

Very very low, if you read the article, there is no proof yet of person to person transmission of the virus!

Huh? H1N1 is the Swine flu and is transmitted from person to person by inhalation or ingestion of droplets containing virus from people sneezing or coughing; it is not transmitted by eating cooked pork products.

Were you thinking of Bird flu perhaps (H5N1) ?

Yes, thanks, I stand corrected, I glanced at the title and wrongly thought the topic was about ducks not pigs. laugh.png

Actually it continues to be a high incidence flu type for both Northern and Southern hemisphere vaccines this year (after being last year also) so more reason than ever to obtain flu shots. Believe another report said Thai government hospitals will have vaccine starting in May.

I hear through the grapevine that there is a cluster in the North West of Thailand and 9 deaths there since January . One poster on here should know the town. Also that the Government Hospital is now making serious plans - which is a good thing.

I was ill for one whole week with some kind of flu. It affected my lungs for three more weeks and my doc said that I had Pneumonia ( in Thaialnd! )

Must be all those dirty unclean tourist visiting my Island of Samui.
