BANGKOK: -- Thailand has the highest number of people in Asia-Pacific region using smartphones for mobile shopping after China. Most purchases among Thai smartphone users are fashion items.

The finding was a result of a recent survey conducted by MasterCard on 14 countries located within Asia and the Pacific concerning the trend of online shopping.

It was discovered that up to two-thirds of consumers in the region had made an online purchase before and the number had a tendency to grow steadily.

Thanks to the popularity of smartphones, more people now prefer using the device to commuting to the stores in order to do their shopping.

Based on the findings, more than half of Thai shoppers or about 51.2% had used their phones for shopping purposes, placing Thailand at number 2 in the region for smartphone shopping.

China came in first while other countries in the region where shopping is often done on mobile phones include India, Indonesia, Taiwan and the Philippines.

As for reasons behind smartphone shopping, almost 60% of the respondents in Thailand cited its convenience while another 51% said the emergence of new applications made the buying method more attractive.

The majority of the goods being sold is clothing and fashion accessories at 26%, followed by phone applications at 22.4% and music at 18.8%.

Congratulations to Thai shoppers everywhere on this achievement.clap2.gif

And a hearty 'well done' to the PM whose recent incapacitating little 'trip' seems to have been of some benefit to Thailand after all. thumbsup.gif

Hmmmm, this will not bode well for the brick and morter stores should this trend really catch on. Back in the USA the B&M stores complain they cannot compete with the internet. Of course, the Thai response will be to charge more for items bought online. blink.png

I wonder if the Thai people buying understand that on one of the bigger fashion sites they are paying over 20% more for the same item than other countries? Nothing to do with shipping or tax....just profit margin

Thais don't usually understand anything outside the Thai single plane of consciousness.
