Disc brake rotor turning

Featured Replies

Does anyone know of a machine shop that turns flywheels to do a finish cut on my rear brake rotor for a motorcycle. They are drilled so I am assuming that a tire shop will be afraid to turn the rotor because their bit to cut is not sharp enough & they are not patient enough to go slowly to not destroy the cutter.

The rotors would be identical to cutting a car rotor. Nothing special.

Thanks if anyone knows the best way!

Barry

In the shophouses almost opposite the Cholchan hotel, next to the Mitsubishi showroom is a brake specialist, who mostly works on buses and trucks. He has a lathe, so maybe he can help you out.

Thank you Jesse! I think that would work. It is a pretty straightforward job to do. as long as he can chuck up the rotor!

If you have holes in the disc, a milling machine might be better than a lathe.

Would have thought a surface grinder but...whistling.gif

Needs to be flash ground either side between centres so that both faces are flat and parallel thumbsup.gif
