Pronunciation of PM Yinglook's name

Featured Replies

Can someone type her name in Thai so I know how it's pronounced? I want to say "ying" as in female (rising tone) and "look" as in child (falling) but maybe that's not right. I couldn't find her name in my Thai News app. Thanks!

it's ยิ่งลักษณ์ http://th.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E0%B8%A2%E0%B8%B4%E0%B9%88%E0%B8%87%E0%B8%A5%E0%B8%B1%E0%B8%81%E0%B8%A9%E0%B8%93%E0%B9%8C_%E0%B8%8A%E0%B8%B4%E0%B8%99%E0%B8%A7%E0%B8%B1%E0%B8%95%E0%B8%A3

Aha, thanks a lot. I was way off.

So the average English speaker will pronounce it correctly, as in the English word "luck".

That the rest of the world will pronounce it as ying look is probably not important.

I'm sure one of the reason is the meaning "luck" in English is a bit auspicious, hence they've chosen to write it this way.

Poo! But she answers to Thaksin!
