Three people suspected of illegally copying music and movies were detained in a raid in Phnom Penh’s Por Sen Chey district yesterday, police said.

Mam Hor, police chief of Choam Chao commune, who joined the operation yesterday, said that the raided house was being used in a DVD piracy operation. Three suspects were arrested, he added.

Police confiscated eight boxes of CDs, 24 CD burning devices, two TVs, five computers and seven printers, according to the police report.

Long Sreng, deputy director of the Interior Ministry’s anti-economic crime department, said that the three suspects were brought to his office and will be questioned today and then sent to court.

On March 24, 15 vendors at Phnom Penh’s Russian Market and City Mall reportedly joined a pact to stop selling bootleg DVDs.

Yesterday’s raid comes on the heels of an illegal DVD sale crackdown supported by the Motion Picture Association of Cambodia.
