We're fine thanks (or at least I am, I can't sa-peak for everyone though the place seems in good shape this fine afternoon)

I'd say the Khao San Road area is what you're looking for but not for the next week or so as it'll be chaos for Songkhran plus after that it'll be incredibly hot, followed by the wet season. When the weather is good, it's quite a little sideshow. You'll see some sights that'll make you wonder what planet you are on. You'll see some amazing crumpet of all flavours mind you....
