Future Friends In Thailand

Featured Replies

Howdy Ladies, Swampy here,

I'm visiting Thailand for 4 to 6 weeks beginning on June 23. My Thai cousin has a rubber plantation and a nice house in Songkhla. I am a young 57 yr. old adventurous " old hippie girl." My Cousin Wein has offered me the use of her house (no rent) and I am considering relocating to Songkhla. I receive a disability check each month and could live quite well in Thailand. However, here in the US it is getting harder and harder for me to make ends meet.

I have done a ton of research on Thailand. Aside from the heat I think I would enjoy living there. Of course I will make a discision after my trip. I would really enjoy hearing from anyone that would like to share stories with me about the ups and downs of adapting to a new life in Thailand. I will have my cousins family looking in on me but aside from that I will be alone. Looking on the bright side I'm thinking that in the beginning there will be so much new stimuli that I won't have time to be too homesick and lonely.

On this trip my Cousin Wein won't be able to do very much traveling with me. If I have to go alone I will but traveling is so much more enjoyable when you have someone to share observations with.

I want to go to Khoa Lak/ Phang Nga. I want to spend a few days in a treehouse in Kho Sok. Was thinking to go to Ko Lipe for a few days and hang around the Trang area for a bit. And I'm always open for suggestions.

I would love to be able to hook up with some of you on this trip. Also if I had friends waiting for me here, it would make the big move away from home much easier for me.

I am a big nature lover and plant enthusist. Am also a big shutter bug. I'm friendly, like to laugh and have a good time and like to learn about other peoples culture.

I will be staying in Songkhla by Similla Beach.

I hope I will hear from you lady ex-pats.

Blessings,

Swampy

You said you have been receiving disability checks, no offense, are you confined with wheelchair? If so, life in Thailand will not be easy for you unless you have someone with you most of the time. The facilities for disabled people in Thailand are quite disturbing.

Hi swampy,

I don't live in the area you will be, I'm up in Prachinburi (2 hours east of Bangkok) and anyhow will be away during the time of your visit. BUT if you do relocate here, I'm also a nature lover and child of the sixties & always looking for companions to hike, camp, raft etc with. My house looks out on Khao Yai national park which is a huge nature reserve with herds of wild elephants, waterfalls etc. So anyhow if you do settle here drop me a line and maybe we could do some nature stuff sometime. I really want to camp out in Khao Yai and do some treks in hopes of seeing the wild elephants, it's hard to do so in a day trip. Also would love to do some white water rafting in season.

Let us know how your plans shape up!
