Unis work to help students over loan cuts

BANGKOK: -- High-level university executives nationwide are seeking ways to help over 6,000 students get loans after the government announced budget amounts lower than last year.

Council of University Presidents of Thailand (CUPT) president Professor Dr Ratchata Ratchatanawin said yesterday's meeting of council members at Sukhothai's Thammathirat Open University discussed ways to help 6,471 new students get loans for study at university level. The government this year has allocated only Bt6.7 billion to support the student loan scheme. Selected poor students would be the first group affected by the smaller budget.

Several measures were discussed to help university students get loans - such as speeding up repayments by students who previously received loans from this fund. Reducing these debts would produce enough money to provide for the new students. The council will also ask the university to allow students to work in part-time jobs to earn money.

The meeting also agreed with a direct system for university admission. If necessary, students would be required to take standardised tests - allowing them to use scores from these tests to apply for educational institutes.

PT's education reforms, cut student loans.

Like the bit about "Selected poor students"

Selected for things like, party affiliation, who the family rallies with, color of shirt.

Anyway, if what I read is correct allowing for student loan payments is one of the things PT 'forgot to do' when they dissolved the house.

Invest in education and you invest in the country's future except in the LoS it seems.

Anyway for this government looking after their core support like the rice farmers is paramount.

Ops sorry I forgot, they don't have the money for them either,

Yes investing in education is an investment in the future, and is one of the most important areas needing government assistance when so many students come from poorer backgrounds.

A failure here will lead to greater failure in future as the countries needs for an educated workforce increases.

That is why the PTP(TRT Thaksin) brought in the student loan scheme. I expect that the problem will be solved as soon as there is a new election and PTP are returned to power.

You really ought to get your head out of your backside.

There will be no successful election ever until at least electoral reforms have been completed, and a true free and fair election can never be won by the PTP.

The PTP will be lucky to even exist when the courts are finished with them.

Also... wasn't the student loan scheme introduced by the Dems?

Also.... Thaksin's intention is to throw money at the farmers and uneducated and dumb down the rest.... Typical tyrant style of governing.

Also... wasn't the education ministry blaming the PDRC for the lack of student funding back in January??

Thaksin's time is up... Before ANY successful election will be allowed, his influence will be banned by reforms.... get used to it and pull your head back out of your a-se.

These incompetents are certainly masters at alienating their voters - What happens, if out of the votes cast (when they get around to an election) the 'No' votes' win!!! The swing from PTP to 'no votes' must be massive by now on account of them not being not quite able to vote for the Dem's.

The signs were clear to see in the dud election where even in the North and North East the 'no count' was appreciable and well above the norm!!

Its simple.. tables transactions are easy to skim and steal from. Need money for tablets.. student loans.. not easy to steal from. Ok more budget for tablets.. less for loans. PTP officials can buy new houses and cars.

They are not incompetent, they are great at stealing and violence. Its the PTP way.
