I like the comment about if you take on a soi dog it is a commitment for the rest of his life, maybe a lesson for the people who exchange GFs on a regular basis.

If my gf licked me up and down nightly, I would never change her

Our soi dog never needed any toilet training. He naturally knew to make his business outside and as far away from where he stays at possible.

Absolute best guard dog, he always woke us up 1-2 hours before the junk collectors come (the come 3-5 AM) and not stopped till the left biggrin.png

Else a great dog, who never cared if he is alone.

Yeah, my soi dog never needed any toilet training either. She sleeps inside and has never had an accident.

I wasn't really planning on adopting her (she was an adult dog when I got her), but she started showing up at my gate and one of my other dogs fell in love with her. I figured I might as well let them be a couple and live happily ever after (that does happen in the dog world). So I just grabbed her and took her straight to the vet, had her neutered and vaccinated/dewormed/etc. and then brought her home. She's been with me for three years and is the most grateful dog I've ever met.

My other two dogs are brats who have no idea of how lucky they are.

Vets make house calls in Thailand. I have a soi dog. We keep a cage in the car port and put the dog in the cage when the vet comes to give shots. I leash her and hold her head to the front of the cage and the vet gives her shots in the back. The rests of the time she has free run of our property as it is surrounded by a high wall and is walked outside twice a day. She gets a bath every two weeks. I use Bayer advocate for flea and ticks and all the other stuff

  • heartworm prevention
  • flea and lice treatment and prevention of flea infestations. The product can be also used as part of a treatment strategy for FAD (Flea Allergy Dermatitis)
  • gastrointestinal worm control including several larval stages
  • treatment and prevention of lungworms in dogs (Angiostrongylus vasorum and treatment of crenosoma vulpis)
  • control of ear mites in cats and dogs
  • control of sarcoptic mange in dogs
  • control of Demodex mites in dogs

I don't know if it really protects against all that stuff but I've had no problems. She is an outside dog and sleeps most nights on a raised storage area in the car port giving her a view over the fence.

As far as I know, Advocate doesn't protect against ticks, right? What do you do for ticks?

A powder with neem oil in it. She likes the powder. I don't really know why. You know how Thais use powder. Maybe because she is a Thai dog.

We have these burning rebelling strips at his sleeping place. I would never get the idea to have something burning close to a dog, but I noticed it only after wife used it several month and the dog had never a problem with it......Somehow the dog recognized that he shouldn't mess with it.

Else soi dogs are very resistant to about everything beside fleas.....And happily eat everything without problems. My staff gave him milk....I thought dogs can't drink milk. He drank half a liter without problems. (My staff thought the soi dog is a reborn Farang, as he liked "Farang food" and addressed him only with "Khun" crazy.gif and shared their food with him crazy.gif.pagespeed.ce.dzDUUqYcHZ.gif )

If you are talking about mosquito coils I have those too. My dog sleeps where ever I put a coil. By the front door or by her sleeping place in the car park. She has put 2 and 2 together and realizes the coils mean no mosquitoes. She did steal and ice cream cone once and then it was vomit city.

yes I mean the coils....just the word coil didn't came into my mind (my English isn't as good as it should be). Mine when young could eat just everything, I just took care that they don't feed him too much salt or sweet things. But he loved Pizza, Spaghetti, Schnitzel, Burger, Bread and specially Beef more than any dog food that why everyone knew it is a reborn Farang.....

If you give me your address I let him blow into a plastic bag and send it to you as sample biggrin.png

If you trying to pick me up, i would expect flowers as welltongue.png

PS. My boy loves somtam, he eats it with pleasure in his eyes, then it appears as he is crying from all the chili, drinks water and comes back to eat more.

His wife loves watermelon and pretty much all other fruits-apples, mango, etc.

Others seem to be normal, but these 2 i believe are most certainly not biggrin.png

You would do well to bring the dog in to the vet and get all the vaccinations and check for worms.

Good luck.

I would recommend having him/her de-sexed too unless you really want to breed more dogs. Good luck and I hope it all works out OK and you will have a loyal friend.

It may be difficult to find a Thai vet to neuter a dog.

Buddhist thing, I guess.

No problems at all, I think you are thinking of euthanasia.

Really? Somtam.....that's crazy!!!

Fruits is also strange but Somtam tops everything....

My wife does not allow the dog get raw meat....so we have to cheat a little bit so she doesn't know....Once a forgot minced beef in the fridge, it got black on the surface, smelled and got slimy 1 kg of it.

I thought before I put it in the junk I try if he maybe likes it (raw of course, I wouldn't cook that). I think he need 2 min to swallow it down (1kg) and than immediately slept all the night. (he always sleeps all the day and is awake all the night, I guess he is half dog half bat)

What? Every single vet in Thailand neuters/spays.

Of course it's allowed and is a great idea BUT be aware you will have a lot of hard work ahead of you.

Dog has been living on the street so no toilet training, no eating patterns and desire to roam the streets.

That's just plain silly.

My soi dogs just like any normal dog has toilet training, never poo/peed in the house.

They get their twice a day walk like any other dog and are happy with that.

The only thing that is silly is your ignorant post to assume every soi dog knows not to go toilet in the house when its spent all of its life on the street going toilet whenever and where ever it likes

I got dogs from a mountain village where the people were dirt poor. Intelligent dogs..not the people. Great loving pets, and I take them, everywhere in my car. At hotels they stay in the car and go walkies and toilet same time every day when I travel.

No problems at all. Ps. I stay at 5 star properties and always inform them I have pets staying in the car. No issues ever

The missus & I now have 5 dogs. Three of them were soi dogs whilst

one was given to us as her previous family had to return to Europe and

didn't want their dog to spend a long time in quarrantine (Stalag K9).

Here's a pic of our most recent addition....his name's Mooch because

other than not doing very much his name describes what he does the

best. He's about 90% Lab & the rest...who knows. He's been to the vet

and is healthy. The pic was taken the day we found him...

attachicon.gifMooch.JPG

got a fine set of ham Kai's on him..

I adopted a Soi dog that use to follow me on my scooter, it was great having him around and privided a guard when I wasn't home. Definitely get it checked by a vet and give it a good bath (watch for ticks as many of the doga are covered by them.

GO FOR IT !

All my dogs originated from the soi. Great pets, again what others have said, it can be a little bit of work when you first restrict their movements from the property OR when training to walk on the lead. But in my experience, it's always well worth it.

The prats that run out and buy designer dogs rather than house an already unfortunate creature really irritate me.

Dude, please take it home! NOW!!!

I'm sick of Soi dogs chasing me along my home road. Being overweight and using a cane is no fun at the best of times and when you have a pack of snarling vicious dogs sniffing and snarling around your arse it is downright scary!

with respect if they chased you more you would not be over weight.
