Nothing to investigate here, the load was to high and a moron did not mesure height of the load.

Have you thought that he may have been under other bridges and this one was not at the height that it was meant to be? So many jump to the conclusion that the driver is always at fault.

If that had happened in a first world country where engineers actually test welds and steel and concrete if used, the overpass most likely would have won.

I'll accept that and at least the overpass didn't try to flee the scene.

You mean like the one that collapsed on its own in Thailand last year? The one where it was obvious that it was under-engineered and poorly built, probably to line someone's pockets?

A pedestrian overpass/walkway in the US would strip the load right off that truck. Why would anyone build something that would put pedestrians in danger from the traffic below?

Here's a pedestrian bridge in the State of Utah, US, that would tear that truck apart.

I think about this ever time I use a crossover...

No joking about that... I've taken to doing the same thing, and specifically, looking both ways and and down the road whenever I'm crossing on one of the bridges -- just to make sure there's nothing oversized/height headed my way.

This accident (using that term advisedly) isn't the first of these. It's just the latest in a series of them.

One of the more recent ones I remember in BKK involved an oversized load that also had a Traffic Police escort at the time. After the truck hit and brought down the pedestrian bridge, needless to say, the Traffic Police doing the gig supposedly on an off-hours, for-hire basis fled the scene, never to be heard from or mentioned in the news again.

Then there was the more recent episode out of BKK where some substitute bus driver unfamiliar with his route took a double decker tour bus down the wrong side road and ended up decapitating the top section of the bus when he tried to drive his bus under a low-hanging overpass. Lots of passengers injured in the process.

And it goes on and on....

This was not a commercial van hitting the pedestrian overpass but a huge steel girder box frame for a railway. I think that massive weight would have had quite an impact on most structures anywhere.

Look, the US has almost 10 million square kms of land, 120,000 kms of salt water shoreline, the world's 3rd largest population, is heavily covered with infrastructure, and since nothing is perfect, something bad is going to happen sometimes.

But to assert that roads, bridges, overpasses or other infrastructure in Thailand are built to 1st world standards is absurd. Absolutely absurd.

Much of the money the government pays for something is lost in brown envelopes before the contractor makes his own brown envelope and what's left is used to throw crap together.

I sure agree about the route planning and checking, and the escort.

Also there should have been people going ahead to stop traffic until the load passed.

But since the structure was on a truck, we can reasonable estimate what its maximum weight could have been even if it was overloaded. A truck has limits.

Those limits can't take down a properly engineered and built overpass, even one for pedestrians.

I read in another article the police escort recommended this route and the height sign on the bridge was incorrect so they are saying the sign was at fault for the accident, naughty sign
