Simple question. I've read references to it here, but I don't know where to find it. Could someone send me a link? Thanks

Ditto. There is a list though in the CM forum so if you live in CM see http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/513012-recommended-doctors-and-medical-specialists/

Nothing like this done for Bangkok and I don't think it is a good idea -- too many variables making each person's individual needs different. (Note that the CM list has that limitation - it breaks down only by main specialty not sub-specialty. Ob-Gyns for example may specialize in maternity care, or infertility, or gyn cancers etc -- all very different things).

If you need a doctor for a specific problem, do a search of this forum or feel free to post an inquery, being sure to say where you live and the more detail you can offer as to the problem the better in terms of our being able to direct you to the best resource.

But maybe a list of well sorted Pharmacies or Pharmacies who are ready to order some exotic medications (and not only having a girl at the counter while the Pharmacist is playing gulf)?

I recall (but not in Bangkok) to visit 5 Pharmacies to buy Aspirin and non had it and non even had a remote idea what Aspirin could be (no communication problem, Aspirin, ASS, and the chemical name).

So list of Farang friendly helpful Pharmacies which can order something would be helpful.

Thanks,

Yeah, you're all right. The list was for Chiang Mai...sorry for any hassles.

I do think it's a good idea to have such a list for Bangkok though, or perhaps a special pinned thread. I know such things are very subjective, but if there are enough comments, you can frequently get an idea of the situation. It works well enough on ebay with "seller comments and ratings". I know it's not perfect but choosing a doctor blindly isn't perfect either. In the US, there are rating sites for doctors, and it's a good idea. There are a lot of quacks out there, and the medical profession protects their own. So it's up to "protect their own" as well.

It is just too complicated, for the reasons stated. There are specialties and sub-specialties within those (and people quite often do not know which subspecialty they need, in my experience) and a host of other individualized factors. Not the same as buying a product.

A great deal of what goes on i n the Health forum is referring people to doctors for specific needs, feel free to use it for this. you'll get much better advice than any list could provide.

There is a Doctor List somewhere although it is put together for commercial purposes. Punters (patients) then "vote" (score out of 5) whether they think the guy is any good. I don't know whether you can elect yourself onto it (as an MD), or whether the hospitals run it. I havent seen it for about two years.

Sheryl's advice is spot on. There are specialities and sub-specialities and crossover specialities. There are kidney doctors (nephrologists) who may or may not work in general urology (e.g. bladders and prostates). Obstetrics is about giving birth and the problems "at that time" (although normal births are handled by the midwife in most places); Gynae is all about 'woman problems', womb, ovaries, prolapses, malignancies (etc) which are normally not 'found' when a normal birth takes place, and may occur years before or after. however, many MDs are Obs/Gynae, or supposedly so. It is easy to get confused.

Ask on this board or ask someone who knows.

Problem with such a list is that it is outdated the moment it is published. Same for pharmacies as the availability of drugs at any given pharmacy vary over very short periods; may have something to do with "deals" the pharmacies get from pharmaceutical agents etc.
