Visa Validity Periods & Outward Return Tickets Rules Clarification

Recommended Posts

Normal routine for many years was multiple-entry 1 year non-immigrant O visas for Brit wife and self from UK (issue date October), together with two return tickets with a "best guess" return date of May the following year. No problemo.

Last year, the rule book went out the window and the best we could get were 60 day triple-entry 6 month tourist visas, issue date October, expiry date April - with the same "best guess" return date on the tickets of May.

Were we allowed to travel, and admitted to Thailand this past year because the final 60 day entry could have been just before the visa expiry date in April, thereby giving a final 60 day stay with an "admitted-to" date which would have been later than the return tickets. (We didn't think it through that diligently at the time, and maybe we just got lucky.)

In other words, I presume the return date on the ticket has to be consistent with (later than) the last possible "admitted-to" date on whatever kind of tourist or non-immigrant type of visa you have. Yes ...?

For better understanding and future reference. Thanks.
