BANGKOK: -- Storms hit several areas in Bangkok yesterday, felling advertising signs and damaging more than 30 homes and 10 vehicles in Bang Khen district.

In Kalasin, more than 150 homes were damaged by storms and three hours of non-stop rain, while nine homes in Buri Ram were swept away and 61 others damaged by storms.

The National Disaster Warning Centre yesterday issued warnings about possible rainstorms and torrential rain by tomorrow in several regions, with the exception of the South.

Tropical storm to hit Bangkok and many parts till end of month

BANGKOK: -- The Meteorological Department warned of more storms in Bangkok and most part of the country, except the southern and western regions, until end of this month as the strong high pressure system from China has now moved down to blanket the said areas from Monday until April 30.

In some areas of the North and Northeast, people are warned of possible hailstorm which could wreak havoc to houses during the period, it said.

Meanwhile Bangkok was struck by heavy rainstorm for an hour in many districts.

Strong winds from the rainstorm brought down many billboards and damaged several homes.

Damage to houses by bill board was reported at several housing estates in Soi Lad Pla Khao 79.

Strong winds pulled down a 20 meter steel framed protective roofing that was constructed to protect the homes from golf balls from a neighboring golf course.

The destroyed sections of the roofing were blown into many homes and sections of the steel frame collapsed and managed to penetrate into some homes. All in all, almost 50 houses were damaged and electricity was also shut off. Two homes in an adjacent housing estate were also damaged by the structure.

Bang Khen district officer Krid Kiattiponchart was on site to inspect the damage and a team will be sent later to take affidavits from home owners on the damages suffered.

The district office will also be coordinating with local police to receive complaints from affected parties as well.

Meanwhile sixty one homes in nine housing estates of the Sawai Jik area in the Buriram municipal area were severely damaged by a tropical storm that hit the area. Of these, two homes were completely destroyed and the owners have had to construct tents as temporary residences as the homes were being reconstructed.

Kalasin province also suffered a similar fate as it was hit by yet another tropical storm which damaged at least 150 homes. Monday’s storm is the fifth that has hit the province in a period of one month. Strong winds here also managed to flatten a 10 ton roof section of a garage and fortunately no injuries or fatalities were reported.

OOOHH aren't we a little clever clogs this morning, although the topic was BKK storms I was merely giving info through this thread about Udon area for persons travelling up here.

High pressure coming from China ............. maybe it is different here, but in the western world, high pressure means sunshine and low pressure means clouds and rain.

Heavy rains until the end of the month ............ sounds bad, wait, the end of the month is tomorrow. So we are going to have 2-3 days of rain. That does not seem like news to me.

Many house damaged and washed away ........... sounds bad, wait, these must be shacks of tied branches and tin sheet metal roofs. A good fart would blow off the roof.

I feel calmer now, the world is not coming to an end.

both news reports are from yesterday, that's the nature of printed newspapers.

it did rain yesterday, it rained some today, but it's localised, not in the whole bangkok and not at the same time. The city is huge, with the river in the middle, reasonably close to the sea, so that's why some areas might be flooding and others are dry. That's characteristic of the tropical climate as well.

it will be raining again later on, as there is a strongish breeze from the sea and clouds. Surely the rain is much needed

STILL no rain here in HH, rumbles of thunder and grey skies, but that is about it. Still hot as hell and still no rain. You would think by being a tiny bit South of BKK that there would be some rain from the looks of what happened up there.

Same about 100 km west of Udon city except for no violence. Long steady rain through the night. Loving the cool weather. Doors and windows open all day with ceiling fans and it was very nice. A day or so before and we had 39-41 degrees.

Yes. I just received a tweet from a certain Mr Suthep in Lumpini Park to say: "Help, the sewers have flooded and I am surrounded by rising levels of excrement here in Lumpini..."

The message was cut short. Can anyone suggest a suitable reply?
