I have rented recently in a shop in Chiang Mai a DVD, for once real original!

double sided, but Zoned!

Zone 1, so I can't read it on my dvd machine :o

dvd machine : samsung E338 , reads all the rest :D

anyone has any idea to unlock the zoning in these machines?

Live and Learn. I can't offer you any help francois, but I am browsing zone free DVD players on the net now. I have zeroed in on one that can handle all zones, has a power supply that will accept either 60c/110v or 50c/220v power. But it says it needs a NTSC television to play.

I take it that televisions are PAL based in Thailand? What about Hi-Def TV's? I wouldn't mind picking up a good DVD player here in the states if I can bring it along to Thailand when the time comes. Anyone have any pointers along those lines?

Francois,

Don't know what setup you have, just player and regular tv, or full blast hometheater...

If you have tv out on the videocard of your pc you can use that to play dvd's!

Use a small utility suck as DVDRegionFree.exe and you'll be able to play any DVD with the player of your choice (Powerdvd, Windvd,...)

I'm just setting up a complete PC-based hometheater for a friend, amazing what you can do for a lot less money compared to real hometheater systems...

hi'

monty, I have a "full blast hometheather" like you say, dvd player and a nice 5.1 stereo system ...

of course, I have tv out, and dvd region free (3.32) and good encoding programs and resizing, splitting and so on, but I would have liked to watch this on tv .. but computer is a little too far from tv, and I'm not looking forward to set a wireless stuff :o

I'd rather go visit the link that valantinoxx gave .. thanks :D

I just don't like any kind of machine that says no!

there is always a trick somewhere ... as for software as for harware :D

I'll find something to "crack" this stuff :D

I hope ...

thanks anyway :D

With many of these machines it is quite a simple matter to unlock it.

Go to your local Samsung shop, and explain the problem.

Though the government may disagree, at the grassroots level,

people are willing to help.

not at all sure about the supplier scene where you are, but here in bkk, a trip to power mall in emporium has, as astral asserts, always resulted in a friendly customer service rep doing the necessary chip swap. in emporium, they charge 1000 for this - which serves me right for using such a place - but when i got a similar service in malaysia, they charged the equivalent of 200 there, so doubtless the other power mall outlets, e.g. in robinsons, would yield a cheaper offer.
