When all was said and done, what was the total cost of setting up your company in Thailand?

As someone who works for himself who is thinking of taking his business to the next level, this is a topic I'm very interested in, and I'd love input even from people in totally different businesses than myself.

It varies from 15k baht to 25k baht depending on whos doing the work.

26,500 baht incl. Vat and government fees, however it depends of what you need to done. That was some years ago, so it would consider 30k to 35k today.

On top comes the capital of the company, which may have to be paid partly or in full – not a demand when I registered company, but I did pay the full company capital in cash into a company bank account to avoid any future problems. Be aware, that you will need a company capital of 2 million bath for 1 farang work permit (the 1st WP, extra 1 million for each additional WP), and that the company may need 4 Thai employees for each foreigner’s WP and at least one year of operation with annual balance sheet. I presume that may depend of the foreign workers specialist skills, if it’s a fundamental need for the business terms may be different, but the lawyer doing the registration for you shall be able to inform clearly about that (laws and rules often change a bit).

As OP did not state kind of business, I can only presume if it’s totally different. Most Thai companies comes with a default list of company activities, called “Particulars of the objective” and “The objective in corroboration of the service transactions” in the English translation of the company registration; normally around 25 items, of which some may be reserved for Thais only. You will need to check if you intended business is included in the default list, otherwise have it amended.

Is OP aware of the shareholder rules, 49/51 percent, and limitations in use of nominees…?

You say you would like input from people with a totally different business that yourself....but you never said what business you are in?

Anyway I opened two companies...1st one was 25,000 Bt. and the 2nd. was 15,000 Bt. The second one that cost 15,000 Bt. was directly across the road from another Lawyer's office that wanted 75,000 Bt and said that price was with a discount.....both were just to own a house. So....pays to shop around.

P.S. At one time I was thinking of moving to Chiang Mai and inquired of solicitors up there on the Internet about the cost of a company....they too talked in the region of 75,000 Bt.

Why don't you simply ask, "How high is up"? Total cost is all-encompassing. It certainly depends on a variety of issues, some of which are your business, your location, your target market, your required resources, your the level of involvement in the industry, and to great extent, your ability to navigate the local laws, customs and business norms.
