Police are searching for one of their colleagues who is suspected of stabbing his girlfriend more than a dozen times in Oddar Meanchey province’s Samroang town on Monday, officials revealed yesterday.

Police official Neam Channy said his forces are still trying to get to the bottom of what motivated the attack on 33-year-old Ret Kemsreng.

“We got the suspect’s identity already and we are working on this case actively,” he told the Post yesterday.

The suspect, 32-year-old Rin Rattana, a traffic police officer, had been on a three-month training course in Siem Reap province when he asked for permission to return home, Channy said.

Channy alleged that when Rattana arrived home, he used a knife to stab his girlfriend eight times in her stomach and six times in her left hand.

After the attack. Kemsreng was taken to Siem Reap Provincial Referral Hospital to receive treatment for her injuries, Channy added.
