Overstay rules

Featured Replies

Hi guys/gals

My Filipino girlfriend was due to do her second visa run to Cambodia on wednesday which would take her up to the departure date for her flight back to the Philippines. Now this new "crackdown" thing has been announced she is worried.

She doesn't want to suddenly have to change her flight home and cancell the rest of her stay. I have said she could do a trip with a visa run company to Laos to get a tourist visa but she is scared to do that in case something goes wrong and she can't come back to Thailand for some reason. Neither does she want to take a cheap flight out to another country and then fly back.

She wants to overstay for 14 days and pay the fine instead, so what do you all think? Will she have a problem when she gets to the airport?

I have to say it's not a matter of saving money, it's rather one of her security and peace of mind.

Thanks.

This only affects people doing 15 or 30 day visa runs, not those applying actual single or double entry tourist visas in nearby countries. The best info you get from visa run companies, go visit a couple of them to ask what is the current situation. They do these trips many times per week, so their info is always up to date.

She can leave the country but might not be allowed to reenter the country if she already has one 15 day visa exempt entry and no visa.

She can go out for a tourist visa and return without a problem.

She should do the math for the overstay and consider the risks of doing it. At 500 baht a day overstay fine the 7000 baht for it would pay for a trip out for a visa or even a flight out and back.
