Well he's already had a private meeting with suthep behind closed doors. Still, good to see him referred to with his proper title.

Yeah the fugutive part was not left out.

The PTP should be quite happy that an unelected official has stood up and asked to meet with their leader. What worries me is some might take it seriously. Everyone knows he is the main cause for all this conflict just as everyone knows Thaks main agenda is to return to Thailand and be President forever (a self appointed king). If they think he has the solution then it would be time to start thinking that maybe Sutheps ideas are justified (god forbid i think that). Bleak times are ahead if the Senate goes forward with that idea.

Not a bad idea. At least someone is thinking outside the box. But the only real solution to this problem is elections first and than reforms, than new elections. But Suthep and Abhisit are not smart enough to understand this. They are power hungry and will do anything to be PM.

Mango Bob, Suthep has no design to be PM and no Thai thinks so. His only job is to make sure they scrape ol' flathead square face off the ceilings of his condo every morning. Can't you just see Thaksin watching TV as Suthep walks into Govt House, "Nice, I think I'll stay a while...", or demanding Govt TV airtime and saying "Oh, I won't take your time, just wanted to say hello.". Smash! There goes the ceiling again. The list goes on, meeting senators with a police escort? How about his plans for a new government, Lol. (smash, smash, smash). And Thaksin can't do a thing about it except fix the ceiling, again, and again, and again. Suthep: "One more final push!". Lol.

Getting sillier by the hour.

Legal status of most relevant office holders is dubious or at the very least contested.

Demonstrations leaders on both sides are either breaking terms of bail, or charged with a multitude of serious offenses.

Arrest warrants ignored by the demonstrators, not acted upon for months by police.

Judiciary failing to act in a manner convincing impartiality, independent agencies the same.

Government (or care-taker government) threats courts, independent agencies.

Center for Keeping Peace and Order doing anything but, issues controversial announcements.

A so called Democrat party and PDRC (too long but the Demo word is there too) block election, deny voting rights of citizens.

PDRC and UDD (yes, they use the DEMO word too) acting as anything but, vehement rhetoric.

Army chief fantasizes about upcoming retirement, decisively waits to see where the wind blows.

Police cannot get a handle on cases pertaining to over 20 dead, hundreds wounded during this round.

Meeting Thaksin fits right in there.

Edit - Obviously, couldn't list all the funnies, weirdness, and silly bits. Would probably require a separate work permit.

You can add:

The police act like bad guys.

Some army do what they think is right not what their orders are.

The army chief is pushed to make a coup and fantasizes about not making a coup because of his upcoming retirement.

If it would be a movie I would say they have overdone it....

Thaksin will never return to Thailand, except in an urn. He knows it, yet he just can't stay out of politics, in the off chance everyone forgets his deeds and welcomes him back, but it will never happen. He has made too many enemies. He sacrificed his marriage, his sister and his ability to return to Thailand, all for greed and money. I hope he enjoys sand and felafils. I take immense pleasure in knowing that he cries himself to sleep at night dreaming of Chiang Mai and som tam. Sweet dreams Mr. Shinawatra...you advice is not wanted here.

oh really read the recent articles in the economist to get some idea ,cant post em here or any links ..

its in hand

IMHO the paymaster and pt will hang on by their fingernails for as long as possible, deliberately ignoring that

it's all over.

Why should a fugitive convicted criminal be consulted?

He should be brought back here and thrown in jail where he belongs. Then things could certainly move forward without him interferin

Why should a foul with an arrest warrant on him be able to walk around in Senate freely ....?

Suthep should be thrown in jail where he belongs , than things would not have moved down...

Thaksin was a great PM who achieved much. He still commands a lot of affection and support among the rural people in the north/NE. Obviously it's a good idea to consult him. But I suspect that the blind hatred among the Suthep criminal fraternity will make this pragmatic step rather difficult.

As Churchill said, Jaw Jaw is better than War War

If it prevents loss of life then talking with one's enemy has to be a good step forward.

Winston Churchill: "One ought never to turn one's back on a threatened danger and try to run away from it. If you do that, you will double the danger. But if you meet it promptly and without flinching, you will reduce the danger by half. Never run away from anything. Never!"

The implication is that he is still in Thai politics and puts a lie to all his previous denials eh.

Thaksin offers to leave politics ahead of fresh elections Date April 22, 2014

http://www.smh.com.au/world/thaksin-offers-to-leave-politics-ahead-of-fresh-elections-20140422-zqxr8.html

[ Thailand’s former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra is ready to “sacrifice his family” by ending its political roles so the country can emerge from months of sometimes violent anti-government protests and political stalemate, according to a close aide.

The offer would include Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, his younger sister, quitting politics. ]

things cannot move forward with the old aristocrat elite interfering.

Things aren't moving forward with the new aristocrat elite running what's left of the government.

Suthep hates Thaksin,if you believe they have had a meeting, you are more gullible than I thought!

So if a meeting took place that wouldn't be running away, right?

After all this, he is coming back to have a "secret" meeting with a member of the privy council. He states that he has a solution. You bet he has a solution. Preposterous that Thais would go for this further humiliation. Can you imagine?

At last a sense of reality enters the debate.

Given that so many of those in power are corrupt what is the big deal with inviting the "Elephant in the Room" to join them?

There will be no resolve without involving him.

Maybe some form of coalition where each side watches the other may help to reduce the endemic levels of corruption, but being Thailand maybe they will come to some amicable arrangement and jointly rip off the country!!

As an aside, currently in the Philippines they have the "Pork Barrel Scandal" involving numerous government ministers, my point being that this is Asia, corruption is a way of life, Thailand is not that unusual.

If Thaksin will come back to Thailand Surachai can meet him in Jail.

IF,.... he ever comes back....

In Thaksin mind it is not a question if, it is a question of when. He has been evilly plotting his return ever since he went into self exile. All he has to do is enter the Bangkok Hilton and serve his time, problem solved.
