Tourist visa exemption for EU countries currently still 60 days?

Tourist visa exemption for passport holders of EU countries currently still 60 days?

Reversion to 30 days happens 15 days after announcement published in Royal Gazette. As of today, has publication taken place?

That's not necessarily the case.

Suggest you keep eye on news

Q1. Yes.

Q2. No.

Personally I dont think it will be implemented. They've had more than long enough to "activate" it

You got the Hotels association of Thailand asking the Immigration/Government not to implement and to revoke it completely because of empty hotel rooms

Course it could happen today but there is zero sense in this delay. If someone suggests because its low season and they dont want to make it worse than let them do it at the start of high(er) season and make things 10 times worse !

Only my opinion

That there's yet another delay is certainly strange. The first one could be explained with having to finalize the country list, but that they've then announced the "final" cabinet decision and nothing happened is a communication disaster.

I'm just guessing re Indian National being not returned to visa on arrival.

Causing a pause.

Time will tell.

Any online chatter heard reference this actually being finally activated back to 30 days ??

Am getting close to the point that I'd suddenly be obliged to apply for a SETV (I dont want to at this point for personal reasons) if it actually was published in the Gazette with 15 days after coming into force

Danger is of course just suddenly before that 15 day "window" closes if its published there will be a mighty rush by 1000s to suddenly apply for visas online....getting it not processed in time becomes a problem

(Yes I know lol no need to say it)

When do you actually land in Thailand.

If a setv ends up being required for your itinerary then think you would have time to obtain the eVisa.

Keep in mind the vast majority of visitors are not for 2+ month stay.

More like a two week stay.

60 days ve was always going to be temporary. Made setv irrelevant (almost)

Pleased to hear that

Ideally I could applied for a METV but this ludicrous requirement to have £5000 in a current account for 6 continuous months when that same person has multiple investment accounts into 6 figures each (but it not acceptable according to Email I received previously) is just farcical

Why would I or anyone have £5k in a current account when I can excess huge amounts in 60 seconds flat should it ever be needed...makes no sense at all.

Zero common sense applied

Are you sure about that.

Check it out. Yes while the visa is done on eVisa platform each embassy has its own rules.

Doubt that balance needs to be maintained for 6 months.

When/how does that requirement appear? The e-visa application only requires;

Do they ask in a follow up e-mail perhaps?

Agreed it does say exactly that NOW

It certainly didnt in April 2025......I wonder whats changed. I'm about to research this as still have time to apply for it

Yep clearly conflicting information now....quick google search produces

Surely the Evisa website havent accidentally left off a "zero" !!

They didn't leave off a zero. They just don't have different requirements implemented in the e-visa system for single and multiple entry. But since it's the embassy that processes the actual application, the embassy's rules are what matter.

About 15 months?

I find it ridiculous that someone with buckets of money in investment accounts can't keep 5 grand in a regular bank account.

Never had reason to

If you can access whats in an investment accounts in 60 seconds (to be fair I couldnt at weekends albeit credit cards with high limits are held) than why would I keep £5,000 in a current account. On average I suppose £2,000 is in there on regular basis

I'm scratching my head at that lol....what are you saying ?? Makes no sense at all

Will upload any response here

If that's the Thai embassy in London, they are pretty good at responding quickly.

While you're waiting, you can bung 5 grand in your checking account, just in case.

They were indeed quick at responding. @NanLaew do try and grasp the fact you cant just "bung" money in an account to apply for a visa when its supposed to have been there for a defined period.

However once again these Thais dont appear to sing from the same hymn sheet !

Extensive Email back clearly copy and paste which covered everything relating to SETV and METV and not just the question asked

Summary

£700 in account for SETV (thats certainly more than the Evisa website claim of 20,000 Baht)

£5000 in account for METV

However not 6 months average balance for the METV as only 3 months statements required (same for SETV)

Application fee now £150 METV

I get the impression each application is individually assessed (fair enough) and additional information "requests" can be made....I wouldnt automatically assume that what we see on application website is the be all and end all for METV

Each embassy gets to set their own exchange rate, or requirements. At one point the LTR (which costs 50,000 baht) was being sold by the US embassies for hundreds of dollars more than what it should have been based on the price they were quoting. When I inquired to the BOI since they were responsible for the LTR, they just said that embassies are free to do as they wish.

One of the severe limitations of the E-visa system as it is currently implemented is that there is no customization for individual embassies. It's a generic application for all applicants. It's better than it used to be, since they used to ask the same questions for almost every application type, which meant you would be asked for documents that had absolutely nothing to do with what you are applying. Now at least they have individual applications based on the visa type, but that's still quite limited. For example switching from single entry tourist visa to multiple entry tourist visa does not change the amount of funds that's shown as required in the application, despite the METV always having a higher requirement. Plus the fact that the actual amount changes based on the embassy. It would be nice if each embassy could customize the applications based on when you select that embassy from the dropdown.
