BANGKOK, May 15 -- Anti-government leader Suthep Thaugsuban on Tuesday has called for all parties to urge Senate speaker-elect Surachai Liengboonlertchai and senators to push for the interim prime minister and government as soon as possible.

People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) secretary-general Suthep announced the second PDRC statement in the afternoon at the Santi Maitree building in the compound of Government House together with other PDRC leaders Satit Wongnongtoey, Banjerd Singkaneti, Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, Jermsak Pinthong as well as the group's spokesman Akanat Promphan.

Mr Suthep claimed that currently there is no prime minister to govern the country, saying emphatically that the person who claims himself as acting premier has no legitimacy or authority to run the country.

Therefore, he asked all sides to urge Mr Surachai and the Senate to consider nominating a interim prime minister as soon as possible in order to find a way out of the country’s political deadlock and to revive the rapidly declining economy.

After making the announcement, the PDRC secretary-general was set to make merit at a protest site near the Makkhawan Rangsan Bridge before heading to the Parliament for following up the work of the Senate. (MCOT online news)

Suthep is correct. There is no legal acting PM right now, so the who ever reach the finish line first gets the job. Suthep, with the support of millions of real people is in a clear lead to be our supreme leader by far.

Such an innocent face, well rested from a good night sleep at government house, surrounded by all the historical woodwork in the background. His intended target, Thaksin in his Dubai condo with steam boiling from his head as he crushes his 100th remote. Let's have another 'final push'.

As the Bangkok Post said yesterday: Suthep's plans are in tatters. I suspect the only person getting worked up right now is you.

You people are really pushing for an all out war. You better think twice you may regret it. Suthep is just making up the rules as he goes along.

You say this as if the PTP Party did not start up this idea in the first place

with a little extra hair the person to Sutheps right (photo left) could easily pass for red evil witch Thida - the likeness is uncanny

"asks public to push Senate for interim PM" ?

How can this be? It's not a popularity contest, it's not a choice which the Senate can make.

The Senate must follow the Law - irrespective of what Suthep or the public might say.

How fortuitous for CAPO.. with this pic they now piece together enough intelligence information to know where Suthep really is so the arrests can start whistling.gif

All this support .... just waiting for the day when Suthep has enough million of "real" people to let the Thais decide their fate.

As my philosophy tutor would put it, the dichotomy is that Suthep claims he has overwhelming support, yet dares not allow that support to be manifested at the ballot box. The Emperor hath no clothes.

Suthep achieved his aim to get rid of the Shin PM so please go home and leave us all in peace your job is done !

He can't go home... If he does, the situation will be right back to pre-protest days.

A shin will be PM and a PTP government will set about replacing ALL insepemdant agencies and courts (NACC) with fully controllable Thaksin supporting elements. Then they will put together a new senate system to get control of the senate and introduce a new amnesty bill that will get Thaksin back in power and put Suthep, Abhisit and all their opponents in prison.

If this grandfather of all protests fails, the Thaksin regime will believe it is totally legitimate and able to fend off any and all attacks, and so it is able to continue to screw as much money out of the coffers as they like and take control of every democratic principle so that the regime can never be taken down ever again.

Suthep can NOT stop until the job is completely done... There is NO current mandate from the people, that ended back in March.. We have an unqualified 'acting' PM which is a diluted version of a 'caretaker' PM and a 50% decimated 'caretaker' cabinet that thinks it has the power to push around a 100% functioning senate, the ONLY democratic office that actually holds ANY 'real' power at this time.

In my opinion.... Suthep stays till the job is complete and we can have a 100% NON Thaksin influenced system and at a minimum electoral reforms to make the next election totally free and fair that the Dems will win at a canter. Then run the country for a reform period and then hold a new election.

No matter how bad Mr Suthep is but he had done a good job by getting rid of the corrupt people in the government.

I know the court has removed some people from the government, but please give me the name of the people that Suthep has removed, when he removed them, and how he removed them. I must have missed that while getting coffee.

Sorry to disagree

1) Suthep, with the support of millions of real people

Yes is correct, the support to get rid of a corrupt government

2) is in a clear lead to be our supreme leader by far.

Exists only in your mind, as he has stated many many times his job is to reform the country and has no thoughts of being the PM

The same people wh0 support him would turn on him if he breaks his word to the Thai People

Sorry to disagree.

1/ The support for reform to eliminate corruption is big - but the majority of these people are not PDRC supporters - most of them hate Suthep as he is cor................

The support for the corrupt PDRC and their plan to replace the corrupt PTP government with their own corrupt PDRC version is very small - which is why you see just a few thousand PDRC on the streets now with their whistles.

2/ Suthep is an old man, he does not want to be leader but of course he would love his sons to be leaders - this is why he keeps saying he will not run, but then refuses to rule out his family members......... who are of course politicians with the Democrat Party, just like he is/was.

Nepotism only seems to be headlined by the PDRC if your name is Shin............. if you are one of the Suthep clan its perfectly fine for your family to be involved and a push for your sons to be fast tracked to being future PM's so old man Suthep can pull the strings in the background...................

Suthep has been outplayed - he has lost - but he wants to save face now. Abhisit is trying his best to save the face of his buddy Suthep - but PTP are wise to the games being played, they have major support at their backs this time preventing a coup and they just need to keep trying to hold elections and make the PDRC and their backers appear more and more desperate and stupid the longer it drags one.

" Mr Suthep claimed that currently there is no prime minister to govern the country, saying emphatically that the person who claims himself as acting premier has no legitimacy or authority to run the country. "

Whatever else you may say about Suthep, he is absolutely correct on this point - right down the line. There is no provision in the constitution that allows for a prime minister to be nominated from a cabinet - caretaker or otherwise - full or half empty. None. Zero. It doesn't exist. There is a provision in the constitution for nominating a prime minister either through a quorum-filled parliament, or through the Senate in the event of a quorum - less parliament. Suthep urges the Senate to " consider " nominating " a " prime minister - not him - " a " prime minister - as per the constitution. Never, never , never has Suthep ever said he wants to be prime minister. He doesn't here either. For those who can't hear properly, we'll say it again. Never. In fact, he has said - repeatedly - that he doesn't want the job. We'll say that again for the hard of hearing. Repeatedly. It is very much to Thaksin's narrative advantage if Suthep did, of course, but what Thaksin says on this subject is relegated to his supporters, and to nursery school. His audience is ensured in both departments.

There is a path out of this crisis. It's called the constitution. It's time for the constitution to be allowed to act under these specific set of circumstances. There will always be those who disagree with it. But that just means they don't want the constitution enforced. Even Jatuporn cites Article 7. So that means he acknowledges it, doesn't it ? If so, he has no business telling people that they can't consider what is in the constitution. What gives him that right ? You have one man who says - consider what the constitution says. And you have another man who says - don't.

The Pheu Thai " administration " has no legitimacy - from the standpoint of a myriad of constitutional articles. A myriad.

diehard, I suggest you simply ignore this guy for 1 of 2 reasons. 1) He's a seriously deluded/brainwashed Suthep dummy. 2) He's seriously mentally ill. Ok, same thing. 3rd possibility, he's a troll, paid or otherwise. But I will admit his comments at times are good for a laugh. cheesy.gif
