phuketandsee
Finally a serious Western newspaper has picked up the Rohingya issue. Will the thai navy now bring an action against them? How Thailand is contributing to the misery of Burma’s persecuted Rohingya By Editorial Board, Washington Post Published: May 16 FOR SOME time now, tens of thousands of Rohingya Muslims have been fleeing persecution and economic deprivation in Burma, also known as Myanmar, by boat. While some go off to work and send money home, others have staked all on a permanent exodus, setting sail in search of better times. They don’t always find it. Hundreds have died at sea and others have been pulled into a growing vortex of human smuggling. Som wat
True Thai culture and the 21st century's media and technology just don't mix. My Lord, the truth might be shown and respsonibility might have to be publically faked. Awful, just awful. The poor Thais. Som wat
While I'm on the subject, any one know of any follow up of the Thai couple in Central Thailand who tortured their Burmese slave girl, burning her and the such, and then dissappeared to Cambodia when caught? About 6-12 months ago.
grumpyoldman
There are two sides to every story and many nations have problems regarding what to do about Illegal immigrants. Just look at France and the North Africans, Australia and their boat people. So the Thai Navy bears the brunt of the criticism because they're the first guys on the scene to have to deal with these boat people? Goody 2 shoes at Phuketwan, are they going to accept these people, provide housing and jobs or just out to make noise and some headlines? No, the matter begins in Myanmar, so why don't we start bashing that government over it as opposed to the Thai Navy.

That's 1000 men, women and children, towed out to sea and then set adrift to die. Edited May 18, 2014 by Som wat

All I'm saying is that there is more to the story than blaming the guys who have to deal with the problem on the front lines.
