Civil society groups on Friday called for three judicial draft laws, which they claim could jeopardise the independence of the courts, to not be passed by the National Assembly this week.

“We have found that provisions of the draft laws jeopardise the independence of the judiciary,” Chak Sopheap, executive director of the Cambodian Center of Human Rights (CCHR), said at a press conference on Friday afternoon.

The laws on the organisation and function of the judiciary are scheduled to be debated on Tuesday.
