Thai Language Courses in Isaan

Featured Replies

Hi

I've got some spare time and want to invest in learning more Thai.

I can read to a basic level but my writing skills are not so good.

I can have a decent conversation but find I'm limited when it comes to having a real and meaningful conversation (no smart comments required!).

I previously looked into the Chula course years ago and this is something I would be interested in taking on....

Is there any college or university in Isaan that offers Thai language courses?

I'm currently living in Yasothon but am flexible to go anywhere.... but would prefer not to go back to Bangkok.

Any help/advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

If you fail to find a formal way to further your Thai, why not invest in the Foreign Service Institute course (free online), or something similar........then track down a reasonably educated Thai who's interested in furthering her/his English studies. Swap an hour or two, you teach English, the other teach you Thai. If you use the FSI course, you've got a pretty professional course, although somewhat dated, it will relieve your Thai teacher of trying to develop a lesson plan for you.

Demand (in a polite way) that your Thai teacher be firm with you....correct your mistakes when you make them. If you've learned a language back in the US/UK, you have some idea of how languages are taught......and the few Thai teachers I've had seem willing to follow those methods, once I've explained them.

Good luck with your studies!

HI

Thanks for the update.

I really need the discipline of an organised class....... I have the FSI, Linguaphone and various other teaching courses..... but unless I go to a class then I just dont have the willpower to force myself to study.

I've previously done the "one on one" with other Thais...... teaching them English and in turn them teaching me Thai but that wears thin after a few weeks.....

I prefer the interaction with a class...... and if I could get involved in a University or College all the better......

But thanks for the suggestions anyway.......

If I cant find an organised class then I'll just have to make do......
