Does anyone one know where to buy extra virgin Coconut Oil by the litre (or roundabouts) for a decent price?
I use a lot, for cooking, adding to food, etc. so don't want to buy it from those beauty shops which charge through the nose for small amounts.
I found a guy at the walking market once who sold it to me at a fair price but now I can only find small bottles at beauty shop prices.

I've noticed the price is high at the moment as well.

We make our own and prefer it over store bought, there's two methods.

Using mature coconuts and grinding the pulp then straining it to get the milk- 3 coconuts will give you almost 2 cups of milk which 40-50% will be oil after you boil it.

The easier way for use is we buy coconut milk 1 litre will yield around 200ml they've obviously removed some of the oil. Boil for 15-20 minutes and keep stirring the milk will separate and those left over cheese kerds are delicious, you many need to strain it twice.

I did see coconut oil near the food court in that health food store at Paradise Park in Bangkok for 989 baht the other day, but frankly we love the smell and those little leftover bits too much to buy it.

I suspect, but don't quote me, that you are making ordinary coconut oil, not extra virgin, because you have boiled it. To make it virgin or extra virgin, after grating (I don't know about pulp), dry the "granules" in the sun, then squeeze the oil out.....ie "cold pressed".

There is not as much yield in virgin as there is in the method you do.

Buy from which city, and what is your definition of a fair price?

In Chiang Mai, you can find extra virgin coconut oil in 700 ml glass bottles in BigC, Tesco Lotus and big pharmacies. Paradise brand, made in Thailand and has an USDA Organic stamp (which may or may not mean that it really is organic). Their website: http://www.paradisecoconutoil.com/ From the top of my head, the price is around 500 baht. I can check it for you if you are interested.

I buy King Island from Foodland at 238THB for a 450ml bottle. Big C sells King Island for a couple baht more. King Island is the cheapest extra virgin, cold pressed, centrifugal extraction coconut oil that I have seen without buying bulk. There was a place at the JJ market that sold bulk but min order was something like 100 litres.
