BANGKOK, 21 May 2014 (NNT) – Although the SET index dropped by as much as 20 points early on Tuesday when the martial law was imposed, Stock Exchange of Thailand president Charamporn Jotikasthira says the military's declaration of martial law will not have significant effects on trading and investment in the Thai stock market.

The SET opened the morning session with a drop of 16 points, and declined by as much as 20 points, on Tuesday. At the end of the day, the main index shed 15.94 points to settle at 1,394.69 due to foreign investors' selling.

Mr. Charamporn said the 20-point peak drop would not have much effect, due to the market having already absorbed the recent developments.

He also expressed confidence the Thai stock market remains attractive compared with other bourses in the region, citing the 30 billion baht of net buying of stocks by foreign investors during the March to April period.

He said these investors were looking at their investments in the long term.

The SET president added that no special measures have been issued to regulate trading in the stock exchange.
