Will be permitted to stay in Thailand for a period not exceeding 30 days unlimited number of times. Unless you enter immigration checkpoint at the borders with neighboring countries. Not sure how to read this but it looks like they are saying all passport holders of visa exempted countries get 30 days at the Malaysian border?

Nothing new there. That is the same thing that has been on several websites for years.

The part in bold got goofed up a bit in the translation. It only applies to Malaysians not every body..

From:http://www.mfa.go.th/main/en/services/123/15396-Tourist-Visa-Exemption.html

According to the Interior Ministerial Announcements dated 1 October B.E. 2545 (2002), 20 December B.E. 2545 (2002), 18 October B.E. 2547 (2004), 6 May B.E. 2548 (2005), and 23 June 2554 (2011), passport holders from 48 countries and 1 special administrative region - Hong Kong SAR - are not required to obtain a visa when entering Thailand for tourism purposes and will be permitted to stay in the Kingdom for a period of not exceeding 30 days on each visit. If such foreigners enter the Kingdom at the immigration checkpoints which border neighboring countries, they will be allowed to stay for 15 days each time, except Malaysian nationals who cross the borderline from Malaysia whose granted period of stay will not exceed 30 days each time.

Malaysians will be allowed to enter Thailand and remain for 30 days ONLY if entering directly from Malaysia.

Although not mentioned directly, this implies that Malaysians entering Thailand overland from the other 3 countries (Myanmar, Laos or Cambodia) can only get 15 days as other nationalities that are afford visa exempt entry.

  • 2 months later...

Just came across this. I couldn't figure why or what changed. I drive to Thailand regularly from Malaysia, once per month for last few years. I am a UK passport holder but have an MM2H visa in Malaysia. When I first started going I would only ever get 15 days then, as of about 6-8 months ago I always get 30 days leave to enter so it seems it doesn't ONLY apply to Malaysians unless they are considering the MM2H visa is sufficient to make me Malaysian enough for this ruling.

There is a new rule since a couple of months, that now gives 30 day visa exempt entries by land to nationals of the G7 countries.

Ah. Thanks. I've just gone back through my passport. Funnily enough I got a W30 in Dec, then W15 in Jan 2014, then W30 ever since. Any idea if there's a link to that ruling somewhere? I only ask as there is a friend in Hat Yai who insists on telling all our chums they will all get 30 days. I now have the link to the regulation regarding land entry crossings but could do with something re the G7 list.

OK. Thanks. Don't dispute it having been a beneficiary LOL. Just trying to find something to get our buddy in HY to look at so he stops giving duff advice. Some folks we know are planning an over 15 day trip but are not G7.
