tourist visa exp Mon, want leave tues

Featured Replies

Hello, The first 2 months of my tourist visa are up next Monday but I'd like to fly out Tuesday. For that single day, is there any better option than to go get the 1-month extension at immigration and pay 1,900b? I guess overstay fee at airport would be cheaper and less hassle but it's not good to have overstay stamp in passport, correct? Thank you for your advice

If you are flying out of either airport in Bangkok (not sure about others) you will not be charged for an overstay that is less than 24 hours.

They will put a small blue stamp that says you overstayed less than 24 hours in your passport.

Thank you for that. Is this regulation written somewhere?

I assume this means if visa is up on Monday, the 24 hrs starts Monday midnight?

Have any idea whether that blue stamp would not look good and prejudice future visa requests, etc?

It is a rule/regulation but I have never seen it.

You will have until midnight Tuesday to leave.

That little blue stamp will mean nothing for future entries or visas. Even a longer overstay means nothing.

But could it affect entry to other countries? For example, if you're not from USA, but travel there and USA immigration see an overstay stamp, they may think you're likely to overstay there as well, and maybe deny you entry. Thailand immigration may not care, but other countries might.

USA or other country do not care at all about Thailand trips.

They may get curious you have been many times to Iran, Afghanistan, Sudan, etc.

Do you think they can read Thai. Overstay stamps are in Thai.
