Dr Bruce
Will they let Suthep out for his victory party or will they keep him in custody in the army camp? You want to say anything about Chalerm/cabinet. Eat your words Thaksin from another thread---BIG GOB. this could well have been the final straw from him---Army has had enough of mighty mouth. It could have just as easily have been Suthep saying that he was going to open 3 more stages this weekend. Whatever the reason, I hope it will not be too long before democracy returns to this poor country.
transam
Weeeeeeeeeeell, seems that folk who are meant to govern from any side, do not have a clue what they are doing. Sooooooooooooo, see what happens now. At the elections the military SHOULD have been in presence to let folk do what they wanted to do, but alas the military stayed at home and now we have this situation.
Popular Post Scamper
It was likely inevitable. Prayuth wanted to see if a consensus could be found. As Dr. Weng for the UDD said today, he didn't see anything that they and the PDRC could agree on, which was actually a pretty sound assessment. And then of course Thaksin today had to immediately put his foot down on all three proposals Prayuth made. ( Great timing, Thaksin, as usual. It likely that was the only reminder needed of a back to the future moment ). So the slate looks like it has been cleared, and a resolution through the Senate seems more and more likely.
Popular Post Mackie
It is obvious that idiots on both sides couldn't find the middle ground. Prayuth was simply forced into it. Those anti-coup posters haven't got the clue what was going on behind the scenes. Pathetic individuals who support UDD/Red mob militants would rather a start civil war in Thailand instead of compromising. Anyway I hope the general takes tough approach and wipes off militants and terrorists on both sides completely off the Thai political landscape. I'm certain that the majority of Thais will back up Prayuth and the army.

seajae
just love it when the thaksin lovers start putting down anyone trying to sort all the sh*t he caused out. If the army can get rid of the corruption and shins Thailand will be a much greater country for it. Now we may well see thaksin dragged back in chains to face all of his other criminal acts, the ptp dragged before the courts as well as the yellows and reds. worgeordie
So martial law was just a trial run,to see how the land lay, Maybe the only way for Thailand to one day find its way back from the brink to normality. regards worgeordie

tx22cb
No wonder the acting PM did not attend the meetings yesterday & today - someone must have tipped him off that the participants might be detained.
Popular Post rubl
That happened without any warning, amazing Thailand.... Well, with the seven parties invited not even making an effort to start a discussion, but just stating what they wanted and not wanted, and that being in total opposition of each other wishes and demands, I can imagine that the General started to realise that with that bunch stil playing kindergarten games, he'd better get going with others. Of course the reforms should make it difficult if not impossible for most of the players to get into politics again.
Popular Post dwcrist
Oh man. And they were doing so well. Guess they couldn't resist the cookie jar once they got so close. This shows that no progress has been made or is planning on being made in politics and the military can basically take over whenever they want to regardless of laws or government. Way to prove all the critics right! I was hoping for so much better. You really don't get it! Do you! You're right. I should stop hoping for better. The military and the elite will always be in complete control or take it back if they loose it to the people. I should stop whining about it.

Popular Post smedly
Just as I predicted yesterday - if they couldn't reach an agreement at the meeting them one would be made for them Pryuth went through the motions - gave them the opportunity to agree on something and it obviously has not worked, plus the fact that the so called acting PM refused to attend the meeting was a snub and an error most likely orchestrated by Thaksin TBH I don't see this making much difference - I expect a process will still be put together to involve everyone in a reform process, the difference is the current remaining government will be stood down

That is great news and shows a strength of character that has been sadly lacking in recent times. If they can get it right in instilling reforms a return to true democracy may not be too far away.
Popular Post Fat Haggis
I may have many differences with a few of the posters here, but I would like to say to everyone who's still in Thailand now to please take care as this can go tits up and turn nasty, and I wouldn't wish any more bloodshed to be split, stay safe and that goes for your extended families too.

Thaskin lives in a different country over which the Thai army has no control. Unless you are suggessting some kind of Thai invasion of the UAE? So sad people like yourself are just too dim to realise what this is really about
krismagi
bad, very bad, very depressing news I agree. This is not 2006 and the Red Shirts will not take this lying down as it is a putsch to install a non elected government. That is what the Monarchists want and will now get. This is war. I fear for you oh Land Of Smiles.
DiamondKing
maybe thaksin and the ptp should have kept their mouths shut and just let everything settle instead of provoking this, no one to blame but themselves So we just got transported back to 2006 all over again and we will have an Election and the Thaksin clan will win again and we can go through it all over again LOL
