Car Purchase - Backtax, Fines Etc?

I'm considering buying a car but it's not been taxed for 3 years.

Can anyone let me know what I will have to pay, here...

Is there simply the back-tax to pay, up to date? Or is there some sort of fine in addition to this?

I know this is an old post but still going to answer it as it could come to help for others.

If the tax has not been paid for more than 3 years and I belive your vehicle have a change in status in the vehicles department.

People buying cars where this is the case should check with the department as you might not be able to ever license the vehicle legally again.
