I have friend whose visa extention date of renewal is 2nd July but his passport runs out on the 15th April next year. Will they give him an extention to April 15th or will they refuse.

Or is it possible to renew his passport between now and 2nd July.

Immigration will do the extension but it will only done to the date his passport expires. Then after he gets a new passport he would have to apply fot a new extension prior to that date.

It would be best to get a new passport if he could be sure his new passport would be received prior to July 2nd.

It depends on his nationality, and how long that country takes for new passports.

He should not even bother trying to get a new passport now it would not be back by July. It is a 6 week minimum now to get a UK passport. There is ongoing topic on this forum about UK passports have a look,

That is super slow. I thought 2 1/2 weeks was slow for a US PP and that included mailing it to me.
