Any suggestions?

Wondershare Video Converter Ultimate is worth a look. Not sure if it will extract Subs from the file so needs a little reseatch but a great converter.

Thanks for the replies...

@tominbkk, yep I've been downloading for years,

have a list of sub websites.

This is The Lego Movie 2014, just out on tpb

in BR 1080, not a ts or cam or webrip.

A BR sub is not on subscene or opensubtitles.

I always check for a sub prior to DL.

@Daffy D, I have been using MKVTools for years.

Great for extracting a sub from a mkv.

Does not recognize mp4 vids.

Anyway, why would I want to remove the subtrack in this case?

I did DL the movie this morning at 4am.

Opensubtitles.org has one sub in english.

For a xvid rip, not a BR rip.

Tried it anyway and it worked perfectly.

So the issue of the sub is resolved.

Finding a mp4 toolset for windows is unresolved.

Been looking for 4 years.

There is one for the mac called MP4Tools.

Surprised there is not one for windows.

BTW, the movie is excellent!

Not what I expected in a kids movie.

Childen will be pleased (bugging me for weeks).

Again, thanks for the replies.

I cannot understand what this means either? My best guess is "Great for downloading a sub for an mkv"?

You might want to wait anyway as the BR release isn't until middle of next month officially so you'll get a lot more choices then. I always use Sublight client software on Windows, works for all movie formats.

Your lingo is confusing.

Would I be correct in assuming you have downloaded the movie in mp4 format but it has no sub. You have downloaded the sub and want to add it to the mp4 video.

If that is what you are trying to do, you can use mkvtoolkit.

- Run mkvmergeGUI

- Add the mp4 video.

- Add the sub

- Set the options (ie: force the subs)

- Click on the START MUXING button on the bottom.

- Voila. Done.

The final video will now be in an MKV wrapper.

(why does this editor not keep the line breaks)

@Digitalbanana and Wizbang

I DL`ed a movie, it has an embedded subtract.

My equipment will not display a embedded subtract.

My equipment will display a standalone subtract.

That being .sub or .srt.

To 'extract' means to copy an item out.

Similar to extractiing a single file from a ZIP.

I do not want to 'merge' a sub into the .mp4

I do not want to delete the embedded subtitle.

I do not want to 'remux' nor 'transcode' the vid.

I have and use MKVToolkit.

Great for .mkv, not for .mp4.

Within the the extracted MKVToolkit dir is

a subdir called MKVtoolnix.

App is MKVcleaver32.exe. Works a charm and is fast.

Will not work on .avi or .mp4.

I hope this is clear.

Again thanks for the replies.

Ok, thanks for the clarification.

IF, the sub in your mp4 file is hard coded, then you cannot extract it out.

Have you tried opening the mp4 file in mkvmergeGUI? If you have not, try it, as mkvmergeGUI will show the separate tracks in the mp4 file. If no sub is listed, then I think your sub is hard coded.

I used to use a program called SubRip which uses OCR to "rip" hard-coded subs into an .SRT file with associated timings. It worked amazingly well, but I haven't used it in quite a few years.

You could also try converting that MP4 file into something else such as mkv or avi, etc, and then seeing if you can take the subtitles file out of it?
