3month,6month or 1year ED visa extension

Featured Replies

Hi ,

I will be applying for an Education visa in the coming months, I have 3 dependants. So 1 ED visa and 3 dependant visa's

I have heard of people doing extensions every 3 months for the year and others just doing one extension for the full year. Are visa extensions different in each province?

It could be the difference of paying 4, 3month extensions over the year at around 32,000Baht or just getting the year extensions at around 8,000 Baht. Quite a big difference when extending for a family of four.

Does anyone have info on which provinces give year extensions and could I just travel to this province for the extensions?

Thanks for info

You need to check what Samui immigration gives for extensions based upon attending a language school.

You can only apply for an extensions where you live.

Your 2 year old really could do without the visa/extension since children under 15 do not pay for overstay. (info from OP's previous posts)

Your oldest child can get a one year extension of their own for attending school.

This makes it only 1 dependent extension and the one for going to a language school if it is 90 days.

Thanks Ubonjoe,

Does that mean I would apply for two ED visa's one for me (or my wife) whoever attends the course and one for my 8yr old who will be in school?

I didn't realise you could only extend in the place you live, so it's down to them. Thanks.

If children under 15 don't pay overstay do I need to bother doing my 8yr olds also.

Cheers

One extension for which ever one that is going to the language school and one as a dependent for the other.

Since you son is older and will be attending school he should get the extension for attending school. There are some schools that will not enroll students that do not have a valid entry to the country.

Ok, I get it.

Not sure on the schools policy regarding this. I will be going to Samui in a week to enrol on the language course for September and to enrol my 8yr old to school. Hopefully I can all the relevant paperwork to then apply for the visa's in Penang.

I posted another topic on the Samui forum asking about extensions at immigration there so hopefully someone will know.

Thanks for your help. I'm starting to understand it all a bit better, couldn't get my head around it at first, still struggling a bit but things are a lot clearer, so cheers for that.
