A tourist visa woud give 60 days and can be extended by another 30 days for 1,900 baht. It would also be possible to get a double entry tourist visa for 2 entries of 60 days and extend each entry by 30 days.

A single entry tourist visa would give a 60 day entry that can be extended for 30 days immigration. A 2 entry visa would give a longer stay in case more time was needed.

Thank you both for your Mario and ubonjoe for this speedy reply, this is helpful. Would she get a 60 tourist visa on entry? What information would she need to complete the application? Could she just go to any border crossing to extend the visa for another 30 days after the 60 days run out? Or could she simply go to Nan immigration to get a 30 day extension? We live in Nan, and there is a Laos border crossing about 1 and a half away. I also read somewhere that you would only get 30 day coming into the country and only 15 days for extension.

The 30 day extension would be done at Nan immigration. Extensions are not done at border crossings.

A 2 entry tourist visa would allow a 60 day entry for each entry. The first entry would be used on arrival. Then the 2nd entry would be used by leaving and re-entering the country. By extending each entry for 30 days a 2 entry visa can give almost 6 months of stay.
