PATTAYA:--Just before 2am on Saturday, 2 hours after the Midnight curfew began, Pattaya Police conducted an operation on Pattaya Beach which led to the arrest of 73 individuals, all Thai Nationals.

44 women and Ladyboy’s were suspected of working as Prostitutes, a further 28 failed presumptive drug tests and 1 man, Khun Wara aged 33 was caught with 3g of Crystal Methamphetamine in his possession.

Although no action was taken against any of the detainees relating to them being on the streets during the curfew, the suspected Prostitutes were charged with loitering which saw them pay 100 Baht fines.

Business as usual then, despite the Navy 'taking over' the Soi 9 police headquarters.

100 baht in fines will teach them!

"100 baht?...fine."

Well it's nice to see law and order finally being upheld - I knew the takeover of the police station by the navy would bring results! YMCA! YMCA!YMCA! ( Only it's so pathetic!)

If 100 baht was raised to a sensible "proportional" amount for the crime of prostitution like, say, 2000 baht or 1 month month imprisonment, surely this may have some effect on the "loitering" situation.

The crime was loitering, not prostitution (which carries a heavier fine) but you would only know that if you read the report.

To clarify, navy took over for an hour while looking for police chief. Once navy realized police colonel was already gone, navy left.

So business is as usual though unclear who is the boss at Pattaya station

While it may sound like a joke, 100 baht at the moment is 100 baht they do not have.

Many of them do not have 30 baht to buy food

Same problem different pocket.

what harm do the loiterers do? get rid of the ladyboy pickpocketers for sure but the beach is much more interesting and safer at night when its full of loitering solo mothers

Is the curfew still midnight? How much would a farang have to pay if caught returning home after midnight?
