First visa run

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Can anyone give me some help. I arrived from the UK on an 'O' Multiple entry visa which means I have to leave every 90 days

My first 90 days are up in 2 weeks, I live in Korat and so I am planning to go to either Non Khai and go to Laos or to Cambodia. Laos is favourite I think.

Do I need a visa to get into Laos?

How does this work, I am quite confused.

Do I just go through the border, fill in my Thai export form and then turn around and come straight back in and they stamp another 90 Days? Is that it?

Is it an all day affair?

Can I take my g-f with me or does she have to stay in Thai?

Thanks for any help

Firstly this should be in the visa section of the forum really.

To answer your questions, yes you leave via the border, exit Thailand and cross the bridge, you then buy a visa to enter Laos, you can then walk down the side of the building, turn left, turn left again, and walk back down the otherside and stamp out of Laos. You then buy a bus tivket to cross back into Thailand, complete your entry card and stamp back into Thailand.

You can take you Thai girlfriend with you, she needs her ID card and can go with you.she doesnt need a visa.

I dont think any of this has changed much but I am sure there are some here who will rectify this info if it has changed.

Dependant on the time of day etc, you can usually do it in about 30 minutes.

You can go to Nong Kai clear Thai immigration. cross the bridge. obtain a Lao visa (1500 baht or $35) and enter Laos and the turn around and come right back.

You can also cross the border to Cambodia at the Chong Chom crossing in Surin province. The visa will be about 1000 baht or $20.

Last I heard Chong Chom was closed due to the 'coup'. Was it ever closed or has it been reopend?

I had just done mine there the week before the 'coup'.
