i am going to fly to bkk...get a 30days stamp (usually no visa required 4 me)...and would like to travel to siem reap for a few days during this stay. do i need a visa now?

Good question.

You would need whatever you need to enter Cambodia. The Thai 30 day entry is cancelled and a new one starts on your return.

Let's move this over to the visa forum. Also, you need to tell us how you will come back to Thailand from Cambodia. Fly or by land. If by air, you'll get another 30 day entry upon arrival.

Topic Moved.

Since you will not be doing an true out/in you will not have a problem getting a new exempt entry when you return from Cambodia.

If you enter by land you will only get a 15 day entry unless you are from a G7 country or one that has a bilateral agreement with Thailand.

Thank you for, once again, providing a concise, correct and clear answer. I know I got on your case once or twice but you are without doubt the person I would appoint the Official ThaiVisa Designated Visa Answerer.

I do not understand why almost all posters make a mishmash out of this. I definitely do know your answers are both correct and understandable.

Is going to to the embassy in Laos and getting a 60 day single entry considered in and out?

While your reply regarding this particular poster is spot on,in all honesty one can become accustomed to the visa requirements of Thailand in a matter of hours, and it's neighbouring border countries for that matter.

The one thing that never ceases to amaze me in the modern day of Internet is why people don't understand the rules and regulations, when they are after all printed in black and white for all and sundry to take heed of.

Where certain posters on Thai visa excel is by following and posting updated information when there are changes and the like.

Also what I can't get my head around is why would someone travel overseas without understanding the visa requirements of the country or countries to which they are visiting.
